I'm used those emcees too wu-tang, common, dead prez, talib, mos def... dats just it. Listen to &quot;i feel like dying&quot; or &quot;hip hop is not dead&quot;. There are not a lot of lyrically profound rappers left, but I'm telling you give Wayne a good (unbiased) listen...you will be surprised.

i'm the type who is partial to the rappers who kicked knowledge- ala rakim, slick rick, tupac, nas...

none of these rappers out now make songs as deep as tupac's 'dear mama' or slick rick's 'hey young world' or rakim's 'the ghetto'....

but that first one proves my own theory;
the song is speaking about his drug use and the other one is just wordplay...

seems good enough lyrically as far as putting rhymes together, but an old school g like me need something to stimulate the mind...
i will always be partial to mc's that teach the youth in song...

simply because that stuff taught me a lot as a yuteman coming up...those guys were my other teachers...something lacking now and probably why the yutes wear their pants under their a$$ and use n-word every 2 syllables and all about attaining riches...

OK, i feel you. Wayne is an probably never will be a KRS-one, a guru, or a Nas. But lyrically the man is an artist and I never used to be into him, I'm only into his songs that DON'T deal with money. cars, and girls. I like wordplay because I like when a artist can paint a picture clear as day. I love the conscious music, but me personally I need something on the flip side to just mellow out and listen to. there's stimulation and then there's over stimulation.

ETA: i like the &quot;i feel like dying&quot; because he's not promoting using drug or even glorifying it, but he's painting a lyrical picture.

just like vybz..i caan stan him and i think him nasty but his lyrics...he is amazing...the guy is so skilled in putting words together that not only rhyme but make sense,,,words you would never think could make a sentence...skilled lyricist

new york mc's set trends, they don't follow them;
that's why it's alarming to old school new york heads that new york people now copying rappers from other parts when it is new york that originated it...
it's like jamaica suddenly copying dancehall artists from trinidad or guyana;
maybe i am biased but i judge music by feel and i'm just not feeling this guy;
even juvenile i thought made better records from the cash money click...
i also enjoy cool out songs and party songs and everything else- that's the thing; i like mc's who give a range of subjects;
slick rick hit you with party or funny songs like 'mona lisa', 'treat her like a prostitute', 'ladi dadi' then come back and hit you eith consciousness like 'childrens story' or 'hey young world'...
same thing with tupac...he could do 'i get around' &amp; then hit you with 'dear mama' or 'white man's world' or 'only god can judge me';
these guys now are too one-dimensional- either mindless chatter or partying...
i'm truly thinking that greater powers realized the impact of the former generation of rappers so they did what they had to do to change the game to a new generation of genocide-friendly rappers who never espouse any form of consciousness whatsoever

i actually agree with this cause i love amy winehouse's music...
i merely stated that me personally is partial to artists who also make a positive contribution; that's just my stance...
i have nothing against people enjoying weezy's music- like i said already i respect his grind;
it's just not my thing...
