dahjah - i think of all the artistes u mentioned, kanye is definitely NOT being pushed out front by the media - at least, not for his music. it is a bit of a sport among the media and to a certain extent the popular music community to hate on kanye because he's a bit of an "uppity" negro - he makes no apologies to anyone for his music and his musical approaches, and his self-confidence is seen as cockiness.
he endured a lot of flack for the 808s & Heartbreak because he used autotune. even the people who don't like the way him rap a tell him fi stick to rap. media all go to Common fi try get Common fi criticize the album, but Common said screw that, Kanye fi know what im want and if him choose fi explore this direction in music, low im.
the thing is that once all the hoopla died down, the CD has come in for some serious critical acclaim.
i'm the first to say that when i first heard Heartless i said, "wot the hell?" but that the song grew on me, as did Love Lockdown. I asked for and got the CD for my birthday and love the whole album.
I'm dedicating this song to u dahjah: Amazing, featuring young jeezy "standing at the podium, trying to watch my sodium"

It's probably because I come from de old school wid hip-hop and I don't think these ppl are real hip-hop, they have their on genre called rap. Mi cyaan tek weh feem success atall but his success is because of the same reasom beyonce is successful.

The guy's a dink. Colour has no bearing on THAT factor. The problem is there is NO hat big enough to fit him. It's his head not his skin that is Kanye's problem.
Talent or no talent...and like DahJah said...turn off all mic's when he's around...the 'man' needs to grow up...and shut up.
Someday...he will. Lots of show biz people screw up their first chance. We'll see if he has enough talent to earn his 2nd chance. Maybe next time he'll come with something other than Kanye is King.Comment

o please. all ur post show, R+, is that in fact u have a lot of opinion about an artist that in fact u know very little about. "enough talent to earn his 2nd chance"? guy has put out four best selling CDs, one of them triple platinum (Late Registration), another double platinum (Graduation). 808s and Heartbeat, the album that is the topic of this thread, is his third consecutive #1 album. So he is loooooooong past second chance stage - at least if you're talking about his music.
if you're talking about his "incidents" - he's also long past second chance for that too. he's been given third and fourth chances. remember "Bush doesn't care about Black people"? he's been given chances after that. Why? because he's a talented artist.
People have a hard time dealing with Kanye because he makes no apologies for thinking that he's hot sh*t. he grew up with a mother who had a PHD, and a father who's a former Black Panther - so of course he's going to have a solid opinion of himself and his talents.
his sins, such as they are, are mild, a reflection as i've said before of being young and going thru a lot of drama in his life - near fatal accident, death of his mother, and, to what i understand, end of a six-year relationship. some of his emotions have played out in stupid off the cuff actions such as the Taylor Swift interruption (i heard he was drunk). but a lot of that life drama has also been poured into his music. i think he has made some significant contributions to the world as a musician in his life so far.Comment

I didn't explain it right. There's a thing called "first fame".
An artist makes it. Suddenly his or her world changes drastically. MONEY, fame, power...invincibility. The result for many? Odd behavior. Odd in any number of ways.
So...they ride their first fame for as long as it lasts. But wild living and out of control egos knock them down.
Some of those casualties...make it back for a second round of being on top because...bottom line...they have REAL talent. They don't usually make the same mistakes the 2nd time around.
I'm suggesting that West has enough talent for a 2nd chance. So far...he's still learning...while he rolls along in phase one.

The music industry has nothing to with talent anymore and as far as I'm concerned JayZ, kayne and beyonce are big proof of that.
De ting now is are they marketable and if they are they'll sell on that alone. The ppl who own the radio stations now also own the venues where big concerts are played. They also own and have big shares in where videos are played. If they can keep an artist in your face (and ears) long enough you will buy it only because you are used to hearing it.
MG the fact that it had to grow on you tells a lot about any song or movie. It's happened to me as well. I hated a song in the beginning but because they play the song so damn much on the radio, I begin to tap my foot to it and bobb my head. It's called mind control

okay. mi calm dung now, lol. i'd venture to say that Kanye is past his "first fame" because he has outlasted a number of other artistes (what's pharrel doing these days?). he's coming up on 10 years in the biz, that's still first fame for some, for others it's veteran years.

It used to be that a song...a BIG song...lasted on radio playlists for 12 - 13 - 14 weeks. MAX. Now they last 35 - 40 - 45 weeks. Why? Videos. The industry only makes so many. Costs being the major reason. So...they only push so many songs. ...and artists.
We get the short end of the stick.
Video killed the radio star. Then video killed music. Radio started playing TV 'music'...played by [usually] only GOOD looking/camera friendly artists. Now radio is stuck with TV tunes...and radio is dying...if not dead.
But the music industry has never really been very smart.
