but she is always on point in her book recommendations

See how children of today lazy, cyaan even bother to write stuff out anymore

I enjoyed it, thought the setting of the circus during the depression was interesting, most of the characters were interesting including the animals especially the narrator who is telling the story when they switch between him being an old man in the nursing home to his youth in the circus, I think the old man parts are well done and seemed real. Oh and your boyfriend Edward is playing that role in the movie.

I borrowed the audible book version from the Broward Co. Library website and I must say, the voices of the narrators bring the story to life. Now, I couldn't even imagine just *reading* the book.

Skeeter, Hilly, Miss Phelan, Celia, et.al. are very young and by definition quite self-centered so they all annoy the hell out of me. Skeeter maybe the most, because an unthinking do-gooder can cause so much more damage than the in-your-face racist. The author is clever in recognizing and admitting that.

I inadvertently spoiled myself about the Constantine storyline, so I'll come back to this thread when I've finished listening (about half-way through).

The Help
Hilly is one of the biggest villains ever; her cohorts are spineless in letting her dictate their actions and behaviour. She ended up being a bit of a caricature as we saw no redeeming qualities in her. As Elizabeth asked Aibilene to carry back the cutlery to Hilly, I knew it would end tears.

Aibilene is the heart and soul of the story.

Minny &amp; Celia's story was the weakest to me; it was necessary to illustrate that Minny wasn't just a stereotype of the black sassy woman, but it didn't hold my interest that much.

Great book - the narration of the audio version was excellent. Excellent first effort from Stockett.

I thought Abilenes story was the best because it showed what I think the majority of maid in that era faced in that whatever her employer did name, she wasn't too evil like Hilly and not all nicey nice like Celia, she was probably the type of women they faced everyday that treated them with superiority/indifference and as children.

What yu have gainst Jill Scott? I think she too big as in tall for the role isn't Minny supposed to be short and fat? I think the woman they chose look like the character, I read she was the voice of Minny in the audio book. I thought they were going for Monique.

Don't have anything genst har. She just wouldn't fit in the cast an it seem like once hollywood find 1 or 2 blakc actresses, dem tend to try froce dem inna every role

Also glad they ain't cast JHud either

The actress to play Minny is cute like a doll! I guess she'll be made up to look older and less attractive.
