I have to agree with SueSumba- today's (so-called) R&B is missing the warmth and grittiness, those organic qualities which make vintage R&B and soul so appealing in sound for me. It tends to be very hip-hop oriented which makes it too stiff and antiseptic sounding, though there are some exceptions out there.
