My yardie friend and I had decided to go to this show a couple weeks back, and I had been looking forward to it.
It's been over 4 years since I last seen the group, and I could not wait!

Tickets were on-sale through the internet, but we decided to get ours at the door [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ideathink.gif[/img]

My friend was to pick me up between 5:30 and 6 on Saturday night. 5 o'clock I was ready [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img]

I wait, and wait [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img] and wait... [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img] 6:30 and im still noh deh [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img]

Mi call im and the phone is turned off [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]

mi wait, and wait some more [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img]

Finally 7pm the man show up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bexbad.gif[/img]

ok, I get over it, and am just happy im show up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70392-silly.gif[/img]

[img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/music.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]

First stop is the Karibbean City Restaurant we go to all the time in Oakland.
The food is excellent, and his friend owns the place:

We pull up and there are balloons everywhere, and a sign that says Happy 21st Mari [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

We are told the place has been rented out for a private party, and the owner not deh. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

[img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img] the is restaurant closed [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img]

We walk back out, and see one of the owners, and he says he'll make us some dinner plates to go [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hungry.gif[/img]

We get Curry Goat for him and Curry Chicken for me, and we are on our way to San Francisco! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]

The stereo system in his Lexus kicks butt [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/music.gif[/img] and the drive across the bridge is smooth:

In no time we are in San Francisco [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif[/img]

The show is at The Independent a small venue that has a LOT of Reggae come through.
Toots and the Maytals will be there tonight and tomorrow in fact... wish I could go again [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

We drive around, and around, and around looking for parking... [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif[/img]

Finally he says here is the money, you go get the tix and I will park the car.

I get out, and he drives off.... I walk up to the window:
"Two tickets please"

The lady look at me like [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img] and points to the sign:
Tonight's show sold out" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70394-bawlout.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70394-bawlout.gif[/img]

I knew we should have got the tix before hand, I wish he would have been on time. I try to think of who I know that can get me in [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

I try to call his cell phone and it's still turned off [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]

I listen to the conversations around me:

"sold out" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif[/img]

"guy down at the corner wants $70 for 1 ticket" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img]

"I got an extra ticket" followed by "how much" "sold" - ticket gone... [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

I suddenly become one of those peeps I always feel sorry for, walking in front of the venue 2 fingers over my head, asking every passer by "got extra tix??" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70384-praying.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70394-bawlout.gif[/img]

So as I am standing there asking everyone who passes by if they have extra tickets [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img] when I see this lady get out of her car, get out a walker, and help another very old, big, beautiful, black lady with dreads down to her knees, get out of the car. We will call her "Big Momma" [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

Big Momma goes up to the window, and is met with the same "show sold out" delima [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

She makes her way over by me, and she starts yelling $100 for 2 tickets [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70379-moneyeyes.gif[/img]

She says she's come all the way from Santa Cruz, and she is standing there with her walker waving a hundred dollar bill...

Now I have $50 in my pocket and I can't compete, nor do I want to [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif[/img] so I just stand there, and watch... I smile at her, and we talk about how much we need to get into this show...

Some guys pass buy and tell her they don't have any tix, but within 5 minutes they are back "ma'am these guys have extra tix"

She tells the guy she has $100 and he sells her 3 tix for that amount...

She lets out a cry of joy, and I smile real big and say you go Momma [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] Get yours!! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

She talks to her daughter, and they decide to sell their extra ticket for $40. The daughter yells "extra ticket $40" and Big Momma says you sell that ticket to the young lady right there, and she points to me. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img]

The man gave me $50

Soon enough we are both in the venue, and the place is PACKED!!!

Wall to wall people, and they keep on coming...

There is a band playing, all white guys, and at first glance I dismiss them [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

I go to the restroom, and when I come back I listen a little closer to the band... they actually sound pretty good for a bunch of white guys [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif[/img]

None of my pics of this band came out good, and I don't even know their name [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70361-embarassed.gif[/img] but here is a little blur for ya [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

I take one look at Skelly and my heart breaks a little [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img] He does not look good [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img] maybe it's just the time that’s passed since I last seen him... I take a minute to give thanks that I am here, because who knows how much longer they will tour...

We had a hard time finding a good spot in the club... so many people, it was standing room only, and not much of it [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img]

Most of my early pics did not come out so well as you can see, but better pics soon come [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img] and video too [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]
