Re: Smoking is it a sin?
But it is harmful
"....... and previous investigations have also shown that cooks may have an increased risk of lung cancer....'''
Franksterr the key words here are "cooks" meaning people who stand over the grill for eight hours a day and those in risk would be those who are working without the ventilating exhausts that are always found in such settings and not casual passersby.
the other key word is "may" "Cooks MAY have an increased risk". The use of the word may indicates that they have no cases of lung cancer attributable to smoke from cooking meat. Were that the case there would be either a ban on such cooking or restaurants would be unable to get insurance to cover the cooks were they to continue dangerous meat cooking methods after the causal relations were proven.
No, your objection is philosophical not medical.

A: I can't believe you asked that question.
There is a conclusive link to heart and lung disease from smoking cigarettes.
It kills far more people than all the heroin and other illegal drugs combined .
Exposure to second hand smoke also causes heart and lung disease in non-smokers which is why they banned smoking in restaurants and even barrooms since the non-smoking people who had to work there were being exposed to as much smoke as a smoker.
Forget smoking in the presence of non-smokers, why not just walk up and punch them in the face if you dislike them so much that you'd inflict your addiction on them?

As seen from the above quote, cooking is link to lung cancer, and as a raw foodist I do not want to be assualted by cooking fumes and smoke. [/quote]
Same answer, no proof. Your objection is valid but since hamburgers are a popular food item with the overwhelming majority of the people, it is incumbent upon you to avoid it and and not try to make others do what you want. Further you cannot go about claiming that hamburger fumes will give you cancer because it will make you look foolish in the absence of proof.
Smoking cigarettes absolutely is a causal factor in lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease. If you smoke a pack a day, you're addicted. If you smoke one or two a day you may not be addicted but only stupid.
Cigarette addiction is often tougher for people to quit than is heroin addiction if just because it is legal and you do it twenty times a day.
I've known people who, years ago, attended Narcotics Anonymous meetings and were driven out by the cigarette smoke in the hall. Many attending had a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other throughout the meeting.
