I did wonder if Chloe was acting out in pain from an ailment. I also wondered about her backround.

What I would probably do, and not sure if it's an option here but I would take Chloe to the vet for a check up to see if there is an underlying medical cause. If not, I would have her spayed and then approach local farmers to see if they would take her for a barn cat. I know several barn cats and I'm happy to report they live very well.

If she's not sick she might be such a serious head case that the best place for her might be a nice warm barn.

Felix (my previous baby - RIP) was also an absolute terror ... I rescued her from a guy who was throwing the entire litter (and their mother) outdoors

My vet said when a kitten is taken away from its mother too early, it can cause them to not be able to bond ... <span style="font-style: italic">Felix sure fit that bill</span>

And Cornelius had been adopted out 3 times (yes, 3) and brought back to the shelter ... cats HATE change

I gave him his space (and I mean space) and now we are co-existing peacefully

It sounds to me that the poor cat is at the least, not at ease with its surroundings and especially the other living things of potential danger, the humans and the dog. That cat is probably living in fear, has few secure spots IT considers safe.

Do you and the cat both a good thing and give it away to a lonely old lady.
