Awww but come on,I`m sure I`ve told you before that I consider you more jamaican than some of the internet jamaicans jumping up and down declaring how "jamaican" they are.

Yes,as britisha said,you have more than earned your stripes,everyone who have ever met you,or read what you write about jamaica know that you love that place with a passion,yes,some people may hate on you,...,but that is their problem,not yours,membah me tell yu dat.

Some truth in that,....but to bring it back to the jamaican context,lots of people in jamaica keep dogs,but I have yet to see or hear of anyone in jamaica keeping dogs as "pets",and/or pampering them in the way people do a farrin,....dogs in jamaica are kept for the sole purpose of guarding,or warning when strangers come to your yard,anyone who keep dogs in jamaica and sleep with them almost certainly wouldnt admit it in public,...but as the saying goes,...when in rome.....

Hmmm, I'm going to jump in here & say my piece, wedda any ah ounoo whan fi ear ie or naht....jus mi observations since mi liv yah....Some Yahdies cook fi deh dawg mor dam mi would eva do...granted, the cost of dawgfood here is too high, but sumtime di cost ah cookin high too!....so , if ya ago buy chickenbak & cook wid cornmeal or rice ya nagoh hype up ya bill?....only if yah ago cook wid gas, maybe it ago werk out OK....Mi ago cook fi meh dawg when mi nah ave no dawgfood or lef bone....odda wise dema goh eat wha we have!

When I lived in the States and had pets, all they got was DRY cat or dogfood....BUT, the cats could come in the house, as I allow them to do here. The dawgs have to stay outside inna mi yawd, and they KNOW it, but they always have shelter in case of rain or storm.....mi nah bizness wid di cats because dem independent....it is just "cat" behavior! (that is why I love dem)....dawgs is anodda story....dawgs NEED people to tek care ah dem, soh, if we adopt dem wi mus tek care ah dem. They really cannot exist in a world without humans (Miya talk the domesticated ones)

What I'm really saying here is "different " cultures just deal with things differently. I have no problem with that, as long as I'm not seeing animals beaten for no reason.

Jamaica has a climate where it is not necessary for animals to live inside, so that is not even an issue, but mistreatment is an issue....I won't go into it now, but I think some of you know wha miya talk.

my mother used to cook dog food too, (cormeal and chicken back) on a coal stove.

I dont think anyone,..myself included,is suggesting that dogs are not fed,or looked after in jamaica by those who genuinely love their dogs,,indeed OUR dog tarzan,(R.I.P)was well cared for,however hard times were if we eat,tarzan had to eat,that was the way it was.

What I am talking about is the kind of treatment that dogs in farrin enjoy,jamaican dogs dont enjoy that kind of luxury and pampering,they certainly dont get to sleep with ooman,and if they do no one isnt going to hear about it,unless is the dog talk.

these days, i do know of people (that live in Jamaica) that have small dogs that sleep in the house and get food that would rival my dinner.

but me not naming names

but you're right that it's not as widespread back home

natral u know i love u but maybe u ain't been home in a while ......that's just no longer true. i know more than just a few peeps who have dawg and cat pets, in the house, give them names, feed dem special cat & dog food, love them up and bathe and brush them, keep them dawg pic on they cell phone, have dawg club and dawg show, there's now an animal shelter where they rescue and keep sick, hurt & abandoned animals ....and on and on and on just like we yankees.

it has always been that way for a certain sector of the population..di ongle new ting a yaad really is the dog bags n tekking di dawg out wid u..n dat a go crass di line rite yah now...like di fashion labels, it is a status r pretense of status ting...

like mi seh, bak wen tings did really stawt get bad a yaad, mi personally was so embarrassed one day wen mi fren eena di wholesale pon Marcus Garvey n seh out loud she need a case a chicken bak fi har dawg..n dat was a poodle dat frolicked ovah dem marble floors in the house uppa Red Hills...

people living large a yaad from long time..is juss now dat dem a show off more dan so..it use to be on di downlow weh ongle di maid n gardener know seh dawg a live life betta dan dem wen dem go home...

Missa Chung who owned di wholesale a country use fi ha him helpa cook tun cawnmeal wid chicken bak fi him dawg dem..dem use fi walk tru di house if dem wanted but deh pon di barbeque fi space n sun...

well my granfadda who did live a Kgn always had 3 dogs that lived in the house (bigger dogs) an my auntie had a little lap dog that was always in her hand AND slept in her bed. and that was in Jamaica in the 60's

Growing up we had one dog (terrier cross) that was in or out of the house AS HE CHOSE. the other ones lived outside unless hurricane a come.

And turn cawnmeal wid whatever was cooked twice a week fi di dogs, and still is.

Mi si mi BFF from prep school post her dogs picture on face book an is a breed very similar to my dog an is JAmaica shi live

but I realize that some people only exposed to certain lifestyle or way of life a yaad
