Thanks for reminding me about the thread MGee.
I meant to come back and show off my new baby but it has been very hectic after losing my mother on the heels of losing my brother this summer.
I guess I now know why Walter came into my life, because I was going to need him. What a comfort he has been in this difficult time. I needed him as much as he needed me, I guess.
Walter had a good vet appointment and we got rid of his nasty parasites and ear mites and he was vaccinated. I discussed nutrition with my vet since he was so thin and though my first thoughts were to just start pumping him full of food, I took a longer approach fed him just good quality dry food (Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul). This was the right thing to do according to my vet. I guess lessons from days of old when dealing with thin neglected horses came into play and I followed those rules. Walter is not thin anymore, and his coat is super soft and coming in black, whereas it was broken and bleached looking black/brown just 3 weeks ago!
Let's look at all three photos for comparison. The 1st photo was 3 weeks ago today. He was very scrawny and had that "his head is too big for his body" look...
This is him about a half hour ago. He is very photogenic and liked having his pictures taken, but of course...that is probably because my lens cap is on a cord and Walter wanted to play.
He has the absolute loudest purr ever. If only you could hear it to go with looking at the pics!

Love your baby Nooks. I had one just like him when I was young. Always let him out to do his duty. A thunderstorm came up fast with pouring rain and lots of noise. He disappeared on me. I hunted for days, asked around and never found him. I hope some good soul took him in. Called him Panther.Comment

o dang, Nan, didn't know u were going thru all that sorrow. so glad Walter was able to help u thru it. He's lucky too to have found u.
i'm in love with that kitten. he is so beautiful, and filling out so nicely. when u said he had a loud purr, i was reminded of my dear departed BoyCat, who also had a loud and rackety purr.

Thanks all, I do love him so much already, and it is uncanny how he just showed up in my life days before my mother died. The Saturday morning that he came into my life pretty much out of nowhere. Someone on facebook sent me a message asking if I knew the number to a shelter because someone dropped off a kitten at their place in the woods on a busy highway. The first thing off of my keyboard is maybe I should just come get him, and that's what I did. Two days later mom passed away, and now I do find so much comfort in playing with him and he is very affectionate and loves to sit on my lap.Comment

so what is going to happen to P- banned from your house, banned from the grooming shop - i never had a cat that didn't use the litter box - even when they were tiny - yep P must have been raised in some nasty conditions - but she is so beautiful - did you ever let her go outside?
that story makes me really appreciate Sheba so much more - she is such a good girl

Paloma is living in the country in northern Minnesota as an indoor/outdoor cat after being shaved so she doesn't get all matted. I think after being captive in a small cage for the first year of her life also caused her some serious issues because me and her got along fine for the first few weeks while she recuperated from being spayed while in my bedroom, where she was slowly introduced to the dogs a few at a time. Once she got to go into the rest of the house is exactly when she started having issues. The space was too overwhelming it seemed, but then she started acting like a little mountain lion and hissing and scratching/biting at me for trying to move her from an area she didn't want to leave, such as my bedroom when I wanted to close the door before I left for the day, then the soiling the corners began at that time too. Like it was a spite thing. It turned out to pretty much be a spite thing too, because she was fine in my shop alone... till one day I went out there and worked a few hours one day and found poop and pee around my chair the next!
I tried to rationalize the whole thing at the time to she was just being a "teenager", and when talking about her with an anesthesiologist friend, she agreed, and said that the hormone thing could very well be playing a role, even if she was spayed... so hell, I don't know. All I know is that the grooming shop owner took her to her house after evicting her from the shop, and she was acting fine as long as she could go inside and outside, but then she started pooping in the middle of the next door neighbors driveway that was it for that house too! There was a brief time we thought she might end up in France with a foreign exchange student who fell in love with her but that didn't happen so now she is in the country, where hopefully she will live happily ever after. It's too bad she is a Persian with all that long hair, the life would be perfect. Oh well, that's what clippers are for!
Awww, JamaicaMiss, I'm sorry you lost your kitty that way. When growing up my dad didn't like cats, but I was able to have two of them. One was a black cat named Midnight, and a calico I named Puffin.Comment

oh. I thought it just happened. When I had indoor outdoor cats it made me crazy when they went missing.Comment
