Who has started their spring gardening?

This evening I was out planting castor seeds, cannas and bananas. The ground well fertile.. some massive earthworms I've encountered I've laid grounds for a new garden bed, so my work is cut out for the upcoming days and weekends.

I will report that MrKia has started his garden

He built raised garden boxes during the winter and has laid them out.

With free fertlizer courtesy of Chester and his friends and some weed protector thing I picked up at Big Lots last year, he has started planting and inspecting

Pots and raised garden bed this year
Pots:thyme, oregano, parsley, garlic chives, mesculun (sp. fi lettuce sinting), basil.

Beds: cilantro, callaloo, scotch bonnet. Coming from Burpee are plants for tomato (yellow, red), eggplant, sweet pepper.

Growing permanently in front yard: rosemary, peppermint, spearmint.

Well mommy start her garden

callaloo coming up nicely, scotch bonnets looking good, the string beans coming along but it seems like the darn squirels tekking set pan them already

She also have tomatoe, pineapple, thyme, blueberry bush, pumpkin and irish potatoe

thinking about planting irish potatoes. how mommy started them? did she buy special potatotoes with the eyes already sprouted?

Peasie mommy just put a regular one in the dirt and it start to sprout.

Last year I brought a bag a soil and put two potatoe in there we got 16 potatoes. Them easy to grow.

Miss Exced, am wondering if I plant callalu seeds just throw them in some soil if it will grow. I brough back some from jamaica few years ago and still have them. The scotch bonnie seeds did grow and produce eventually wondering if the callalu seeds will.

Cover the seeds with soil so birds etc. don't eat them

Just sprinkle the callaloo on top of the soil, water and they will grow from there. No need to put the seeds under soil.

I haven't done much yet for 2012.

What I have left from last year is several pineapple plants, thyme (in a pot), and white yam.

Ms E, I did realize potatoes would grow in Florida. I'll make an attempt with them this season.

Home Depot had an ad for miracle grow soil 3 bags for $10. I got three bags yesterday and plan on doing some pot planting this weekend. Probably some tomatoes, scotch bonnet, scallions and sweet peppers. Only other thing I will plant in Florida for summer gardening is Callaloo. But somebody has to prepare the soil for that.

I was just about to ask if pineapple can grow in cold climes, seeing that summer so short but see where you said Florida.

going to buy two irish right now

nothing nice like fresh irish from the ground like from those holidays in Christiana

Mrs Storm,

Pineapples take about 2 years to grow. They grow well in pots, maybe you can start one outside and move it inside during the colder months. It may end up taking you three years, but it would be worth it.
