They're essentially the same thing; both are burrowing rodents - but gophers are the ones known for tunneling, and they're little things, sqirrel-size. Groundghogs are plump, &amp; about the size of a cat.

Well the tunnels are worse than ever. We keep patting them down in the afternoon, by the following morning they are mounded up again. Whatever is tunneling sure is an ACTIVE something! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

We haven't caught a thing in the mole trap either. Ya know SistaC, I was thinkin the same thing... he's too narrow to be a groundhog. They're usually prety wide.

I'm gonna say Gopher.

Oh no it is a groundhog, for sure. You can tell by his tail. Also, there is a whole darn family of them feasting on my plants and my neighbors tomatoes and peppers. I have seen the daddy, he is the size of a basketball.

In fact, I am concerned I will only trap the mom or dad then the babies will die. I need to find a way to trap them all and release them in the park down the road. But so far, I can barely catch a fly. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

i have ground hogs now and then.. never would i consider killing them... never ate all my stuff..

find some other deterrent....there must be some awful smell you can spray or a complimentary plant that works..

animals in the house.. id trap like mice and rats to get rid of.... but out of doors in their own terrain... i have a hard time with that concept.....

I'd say it was a groundhog. We get them from time to time in our backyard. We use to see them go after the tomatoes even with cages on them, they would stand up and reach over to grab the plant to feast away. Now the whole garden is fenced in. Last year we had rabbits eating our jalapenos. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif[/img]

This year we've seen the squirrels running around the yard with whole cucumbers and tomatoes. We get so much produce that the few that the animals get is OK. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Of course, my dog also gets some cucumbers that hang through the fence. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
