Tipping the Movers

After tipping 3 or 4 movers 25 dollars each, someone received a call from the company owner who informed them that tipping movers should be the same as tipping in a restaurant..15-20 percent of the entire bill.

What oonu tink of dat? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img] what's a standard tip for movers..I would have thought 25-30 dollars [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img]

I think she said she tipped 3 -4 movers $25 each. Seems ok to me.

Tipping is for a job well done and appreciated ........ the owner of the company is outta orda --- you should NEVER demand a tip -- he should pay his workers living wages so that they dont have to depend on tips. I believe tipping $25 per worker is a good tip.

I used to move kind of often, starting out smaller when renting and moving to bigger nicer apartments, but I'd get friends to help and make it a party and cook a bunch of food & supply nuff drinks for when the job is finished. Lots of parties with cardboard boxes as end tables around the couch. My last BIG move was 4 pick up trucks and vans several cars loads for a 150 mile move from Mpls to northern Mn. That time there were aquariums and fish and even birds in addition to 2 dogs. Then I woke up the first morning and jumped in my car and went and bought bought a horse before breakfast. His name is Bucko and I still have him almost 26 years later.

I guess I'm leary about strangers handling my stuff. I like packing it with TLC and making sure it's loaded safely and carefully, but I was a collector so I had an attachement. It must be very expensive to hire movers. hopefully the work pays well but I can't imagine giving more than a $25. tip if I were to pay a company who sent workers. Unless it was far away.

furdermore tipping is not a MUST..it is for the service you have received...and what if she wasn't too pleased and a dat she feel fi gie dem..how him woulda know dat ?

when my furniture came I tipped couple of dollars each (nay seh) and I think that was fair..
Plus when me see dem a sweat and huff n puff, me offer dem a cole drink with ice...

No way would I tip 15-20% of the total bill... my move just last month costed me $690 and I gave them $750. So a $60 tip for 3 guys... which I was told is more than enough.
