Ok. I'm new to dem kine a tings here.

A friend asked me to decorate their house [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img]
And they gave me full autonomy.

I've done a room or 2 here n there but never a house.

Only request the person made was that they want hardwood floors upstairs (and on the staircase) and tiles downstairs [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif[/img]

Mi neva si dat combiniation before an mi tell dem seh it soun fool. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70361-embarassed.gif[/img]

But i'm a novice so it might look nice an mi nuh know.

OK. Usually mi seh the smaddy fi do what them want cause a fi dem place BUT mi nat feeling this. Why dem nuh juss do hardwood all ovah and done (except for the bathroom which should remain tiled for obvious reasons).

Also lets say dem want hardwood upstairs/staircase and tile all a the dungstairs. Where the hardwoood staircase meets the downstairs tile it juss gwine look a way. Dem might need something to transition between the 2.

Cho juss tell dem yuh a do hardwood all ovah and done. Much better flow this way. Dem have some wicked hardwood out deh [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70377-loveeyes.gif[/img]

The transition between a tile floor and a wooden staircase is not really a problem, in and of it itself. The are ways to transition just about any floors, but at a staircase, it is easy peasy, and any flooring contractor should handle that no problem or they have no business being in the business.

Having said that, I would strongly suggest rethinking tile everywhere on the first floor, too. I will admit I have a strong personal bias against it, but lots of people do. Unless this is a very hot climate and there is no A/C in the house, tiling only some areas and having wood elsewhere can make a lot of sense. Kitchens, baths and entries are obvious choices. The thing to avoid is too many changes in an open plan layout, though.

I was looking for a photo but I can't find one at the moment, and I have to get some work done, but I will try again later or this weekend.

Is this new construction, or remodel?

As far as transition goes I wasn't referring to the difficulty/ease of the "transition" (cause is not Z laying the flooring) but moreso the overall "aesthetic" of the finished design. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

it is a hot climate i guess. it's in west palm beach.

plus the person is rarely home..they do nuff traveling for work. they want to fix it up by the end of the year and then rent it out [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif[/img]

Most rentals juss come with the basic plain ceramic tile or the cheaper more durable alternative to hardwood , laminate floors ?
