My redone front yard

So last year mi get sick and tyad of fighting grubs in my front lawn, [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img] and in a fit decide fi tek up all di grass and puddung perennials.

it was backbreaking work - never again. the neighbours were lookinig at me askance, esp. the one who keep feem lawn, front and back, immaculate (thanks to chemicals and caw him retired). Thing was, at some point mi couldn't change mi mind, just had to keep going.

so, here is second year of full frontal gardening. i took the pics yesterday evening- it had been drizzling all day.

i really tried to make a planned garden, but confess my modus operandi was if there was a blank spot, put something there.

so i ended up with some really crowded areas.

Rich and Nanook, mi wi try tek a streetview sometime today and post. i confess that mi not really happy with those views.

Anyhoo, is NOT why mi neighbour sell [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img], in fact, here's the view from feem yard:





the path was a big headache. dang. i started with white marble, then switched to pea gravel. mi hear seh mi shouldaan make di whole ting white marble.

i'm happy with my hens and chicks though, which decided to flower this year, including the purple variety to left which i planted this summer. there are also some little cobweb ones you can glimpse. My goal is to collect many different varieties.



I'm also collecting ferns, there are about five varieties here, some bought, some dug up from my parents' place up in Buckhorn.

migawd, what a uncooperative part of the garden. mi grass dem jussa grow togedda without distinction. the sweet potato vine dem to the right a struggle (compared to two years ago).

not to mention the lone sunflower there in front, weh seed from last year. mi a leff it right dehso.

I love grasses. Just bought one and planted in the back today....they need lots of room, they get big! and full!
Down here in GA they get gigantic with big plumes 6-7 ft tall.

Me been toying wid di idea of clearing off part of my front lawn and planting some kind of flowers.

Does anyone know how to get rid of grubs/sluggs? If I can't get rid of them this summer, I am going to plant flowers this fall.
