Hey [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70459-hugs.gif[/img] Kia and Ms. Exced [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70459-hugs.gif[/img] , mi come bck fi di instructions on how fi plant di seed dem.

Up to yessiday we did have snow flakes but dem seh it supposed to warm up soon. a tink di lowest is 39 deg.

So can i plant di seed dem now? How bout spacing, soil type, fertilizing (organc of course)?

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Hi FT, I would wait till middle of May so the ground warm up a bit. I just spread them in an area the when they sprout up I transplant them. I use organic soil, and water good the fist week so they catch good if rain don't fall.

After that they don't need much care.

us canadians start them indoors in seed flats, then transplant them out when the weather warm up.

if you put them out too early and you get a cold spell, di callallo dem wi dungro.

for those who have absolutely no idea a wha name soh, here a picture..



the ones that I have used can be purchased at Walmart, if you have one of those places, and they come with a plastic cover to speed germination..
If you purchase one without the cover (its cheaper) or your store just doesnt sell dem, no worries..
Just do like me daddy a country teach me..
Place aluminuim foil pon top and leave it pon top on the fridge, or inna sunny window..
This will keep in the heat, and cause the seeds to germinate..[img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

couple months of good warm weather. callalloo require nuff fertilizer and water. usually if mi plant out in May, mi start cut by July.

btw, callallo grow wild in Toronto. dem call it amaranth.

this will be my first time growing it out west so I'll see if the germination time is the same too.

question though - I though amaranth was a type of grain?

u late wid dat 7777s it warm enough to plant callaloo outside now where you are.. last year crop stawt come up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif[/img]


yes but in the early spring we did seed dem in pods and put dem in a sunny spot

we didnt do any extra fertilization but I think the standard fertilizer work...

but this year we going to use some bug spray (natural kind) on them so the bugs dem no mash up the pretty leaves dem

with last weekend's snow fall nothing is gonna get planted for a week or more anyways. We got a lot of snow and it will be a bit before it is gone. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

hopefully the postal ppl dont confiscate it. that would be annoying .

I bought a bunch of herbs this week and have them on the breakfast table until they are ready to be transplanted. The herb woman suggested a ceramic "pan" to store them in until I am ready to move them outside. Turns out to be a great idea because the herbs were incredibly cheap and healthly looking but I was worried they wouldnt make it until the snow thaws.

i picked up some rosemary, basil, mint, thyme, sage and some fennel for Miss Twiny [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]
