Maybe you are watering too much which can promote root rot. Houseplants should be watered deeply, not left standing in water, and allowed to try out in between. Also, depending on the plant, maybe you aren't giving them the right light conditions.

no i dont overwater. i usually keep the same soil that it comes in from the store. am i suppose to change the soil ? add special plant food ? my house gets warm in the winter (heating) and warm in the summer (no central air just AC)

so I am lost here.

I thought tropical plants would grow inside with no problem

Lef-Wey, think after your plant is home say 1 week or so pull from that pot,put fresh soin in bottom of pot (leave enough original soil on root of plant)place plant in pot, then fill with fresh soil. water a bit and then place some plant food in. Also remember to follow direction on that little sticky that comes with the plant. I was told in jamaica to water plants with rice water and it makes my plants look amazing. btw mi hongly water mi plant dem pon Sunday once a week and dem look gorgeous. Once as winter past, most of my house plants, which are all tropicals go on the deck. During the winter, I'll wipe off the leaves with a damp downy/bounty tissue. I have over 50 tropicals, most on the deck right now... smaller pots are kept on window shelves indoor. Come winter it's the endless struggle with space.

Are you looking for a plant to hang in the window or to set somewhere near it?
Not every plant needs direct sunlight. Some do better with less light. Also some plants like wet feet, like the peace lily.

I have mine in a large pot that sits in a deep dish. I keep the dish filled with water and it takes what it needs.

That also works well for the &quot;pothos&quot; viney creeper things. And neither of them like hot direct sun. I find both do well off to the side of a window or in a north facing window. Since all but one of the windows in my apt face North &amp; East, this works for me.

went to Home Depot and mi tell them mi situation...I want 2 plants with height...all year round... can tolerate cole wedda...wid likkle color...and sitten dat want water once or twice a year... them look pon mi and laff and seh mi fi stick wid Pothos
