This was the last corner of our tiny lot to be landscaped. So I attacked it this Spring. I wanted to plant vegetables. Research says I should plant in raised beds. So Mr. Gungo helped me. Pictures coming soon.
We leveled off the ground a little bit they lay down some landscape fabric to block weeds.
Next we constructed the raised bed frames using untreated lumber. (Treated lumber has in arsenic and not recommended for vegetable gardens). Instead we "painted" the lumber boards with linseed oil.
Another view of the L-shaped frame. Next step is to order the soil - mixture of top soil and compost and wait for them to deliver it!
The L-shaped is to get more planting space instead of two I-shaped beds. We will get top soil to put into the L-shape frame to make the garden beds then plant in those beds. The landscape fabric stays where it is. Around the raised bed we are going to put flag stones with pebbles filled in. I will put tomato plants in pots on the flag stone walking area. The fabric prevents weeds from coming up.
This project is taking longer than I wanted, but I am enjoying doing it little by little. More pics as I move along.
Here's the concept (from eHow) but instead of wood chips around we will have flagstone walk-around.
