It so late now...All the same, here is my dream vegetable bed planting in blocks:

2 rows callalloo mi cyann fine no-one wid callaloo plant in dis area. Ongle mi relative dem in Canada have callaloo
3 rows of baby spinach
2 rows red leaf lettuce
2 rows green leaf lettuce
1 row scotch bonnet pepper
2 rows snap peas
1 row celery
2 rows skellion

I have herbs - thyme, sage, cilantro - in pots on the back patio.

Next year will start some yellow and red pear tomatoes in pots around bed.

so what happens if hypothetically, you made a mistake and bought treated wood if you painted the wood with the linseed oil, would that prevent the chemicals in the treated wood from leeching into the soil?

Not being an expert in gardening materials, I did some research. Sorry, Nylah. Don't know the answer to that. But I would not use the pressure-treated lumber in the vegetable garden. Even though some manufacturers say their product is &quot;safe&quot; for edible garden beds, the word from all the horticultural experts say they are wrong.

Bottom line: DO NOT USE PRESSURE-TREATED LUMBER NEAR VEGETABLES.

You could lap the black plastic over the treated wood so none could leech bad stuff on your veggies or ground. People here use treated railroad ties, but I don't know what chemicals they use on them, or the consequences of their use.

That is what I was thinking to do as well Jamaica Miss. I have the black landscaping cover that I can use to cover up the sides of the wood as well as the ground. Hopefully this will resolve the problem cause buying all new wood again will make me cry

yes, that's what i meant. it still seems shallow to me, but i suppose if you grow veggies that don't have deep roots, that's fine.

tell the truth, is not so much the depth of the wood as it is the fact that the veggie roots,if they want to go deeper, will get blocked by the plastic. am imagining one hellebba root bind caused by all the roots coming to that barrier.
