Whenever I visit my relatives in the US, I am the official ceiling fan purchaser and installer. I'm not really an expert on fan appearance but I have found Home Depot fans to be reliable and stable if mounted properly on a level surface.

the one i liked the best wound up being one of Home Depot's cheapest ones; plain, white, with a light, about $100 bucks for the 44&quot; blades, also comes in 52&quot;.

all the others were way too big and foofy lookin, plus way too expensive. this one isn't too big, it blends into the ceiling, and it's worked without a hitch for three years so far, no sign of it giving up anytime soon.

I could never have imagined that a silly ceiling fan would give me such work out. It's hard tho.

Unless you love those frumpy gaudy Golden Girls lookin' things, you really have to take your time and search.

I hear really good things about Minka fans and they are about $250 on sale.
