Dishwashers

I hardly ever if not, never seen households in Jamaica with that north American appliance.
Somehow, the dishwashing machine has not been an attractive commodity. Nor has it been a necessity.
But folks living abroad find it convenient.
Why? Dont you have to rinse the dishes and saucers by hand before washing?
If so be the case, why not just wash it clean with detergent, rinse and put in the rack to drip dry?

pre rinse the dishes before washing them in the dishwasher
i was against the dishwasher...at first.
then some "green" (to be read: save the earth) person told me that the dishwasher saved water usage.
i was challenged to try and they were right.
so now....the dishes get washed by other inhabitants of the house
now di pickle is to find a way to get the dishwasher unloaded

I like the dishwasher mainly because hand-washing dishes are murder on my hands...in addition to actually cutting down water usage it sterilizes the dishes and utensils....caan complain!

Geez, I guess that another factor is the amount of dishes therefore the number of people in the household.

What I do is always wash up and try never to let there be a pile up in the sink.

Haha! I understand the debacle of unloading the washer.
I have seen where folks use it as a cupboard as well.

Newer models do not require prewashing
Uses less water and is energy efficient
Sterilizes betta than any hand washing can do
And you can train de people dem fi load/unload it

Q, it might soon ketch on. Some years ago, no self respecting Jamaican woman would allow her family laundry to be done using a washing machine. Now they are somewhat common.

I love my dishwasher. Most of my Jamaican friends and relatives question my usage. My response....

Use it because for just about 1 or 2 dollars in additional electricity cost I don't to deal with my aching back when I stand to do the dishes. Yes sometimes I wash a few things but since I've been sick I run either every day or every other day.

When we first came to America, our house had a dishwasher.

My mother forbade us to use it.

She felt it didn’t get the dishes clean and that it was laziness.

Later in life, I asked her about this and she said that she now realizes that she was wrong – that a dishwasher is a useful tool and, most key to her, that it sanitizes the dishes much better than hand washing with the dirty dish cloth can.

I use dishwashers now but I still, because of that childhood experience, can’t shake the feeling that I’m being lazy when I do.

We have a dishwasher in our home now and I think I use it maybe, 3 or 4 times a year.

kisssteet mommy use it as dishdrainer at first when we juss move to GA but now if mi a wash wan spoon mi hear noooooooo put ie in di dishwasha

mi use mine regila, very regila (inna mi bess oliver voice)

I used to feel guilty, then one day I decided standing in front of the sink was not a productive use of my time. I researched dishwashers, found out what to look for in a good one. Never looked back.

feel like i should invest in one too

i still wash dishes by hand... and i do not use a dishrag or those sponges. always tear off several sheets of bounty hand towel to wash dishes and discard after use. not efficient as i go through bounty towels quite frequently but it is only 2 of us in this household and we don't go through much dirty dishes to begin with.
