Sorry you purist grillers but I've done the big gas grill for over 20 years. I have always been petrified of propane tanks

Last year I donated The Gas Grill to charity for a tax deduction.

I wish I still had de article fi yuh bout how dese bbq's weh use lighter fluid etc are not good fi yuh health at all.

Mi have a natural gas bbq, suh mi nevah run out an nevah haffee run guh change nuh tank.
Mi nahfee buy bricks, lighter fluid nar propane.

While I have never used an electric grill and could not say how good or bad they are relative to gas or charcoal grills, I do not believe that any professional grill cooks would ever consider using an electric grill of any sort and there has to be a reason for this having to do with how the food comes out.

Electric cooking would seem to be a lot easier-no charcoal, no tanks to refill- and were they superior or even equal to gas or charcoal grills, I'm sure many more would be in use.

I worked at Lowe's for a short time assembling and selling grills and in the time I was there, I had one inquiry about an electric grill from someone living in a condo in which grills that produced flames were not allowed.

They seem to be a substitute for the preferred methods of gas and charcoal in situations like this.

Jerk pork, jerk chicken on an electric grill?
Blasphemy!

What really counts though is how YOU like cooking with an electric grill.

I gave up on the gas grills long ago but I don't care for the George Foreman electric style either. I have a great little barrel type grill/smoker:



You don't need to use charcoal starter, just the other day I did it the old fashioned way with a little paper and kindling under the coals.

Speaking of coals, I don't much care for the briquettes that are commonly sold. At the hardware store I found this..

Frontier Charcoal

The coals last forever, I can smoke a rack of ribs for 5- 6 hours and never add another chunk.



Maybe today I will smoke some chicken breast. Anybody got a light?

You are right about those grill chefs ... and I'm not one of them

I am willing to bet that back in the day when gas grills were touted as The Next Best Thing, grill chefs were aghast at this new trend and swore that the best cooking was to be done on charcoal only.
