The laws say that you can't put or use these cylinders inside your house where trapped released gas could likely cause an explosion .
But outside it is vewy, vewy difficult to have any sort of accident because gas grills are set up to be safe, to avoid lawsuits.
Once you understand the safety rules gas grills are little different from gas ranges except that gas grills are always outside where any possible gas leaks are dissipated by the open air and explosions nearly impossible.
Most grills now have electronic (battery powered) igniters so you don't have to light them with a match. My old Weber gas grill is about ten years old and the gas trap near the igniter has corroded away making the igniter non-functional and I do have to light the grill with a (wooden) match.
I have been cooking on gas grills for about 15-20 years and have never had any problems.
BUT.... if you don't feel safe there's no sense in you having a gas grill.
