i knew it would happen sooner or later cause babylonia influence all around...

i told her she had the most beautiful hair i've ever seen and that those others pay money to get hair like she has and that she should not try to follow everyone else...
you just wonder if a 5-year old can really process that when everyone she sees on tv that she admires has the straight flowing hair- including the first lady & her daughters

awwwwww - she is is so beautiful Jahyout...

Her personality is still forming and as she gets older and forms her ideas on what she likes etc, she will be less pressured to conform.

in the meantime - maybe she could get a blowout at the hairdresser - no chemicals involved - maybe for a once in awhile look?

she thanks you..yes you are right; maybe a once in a while ting without chemicals;
her mom sometimes does her hair in twists which she really likes...she asked her last night if she wants her hair like daddy's (long locks mi have)and she said maybe...so i guess i won't take it too serious--women like to change their hairstyles up...mussi a in-born ting

It absolutely is - women just need to have choices...

sometimes mi hair is wavy and curly... sometimes i look like shirley temple and other days its bone straight - it just depends on the mood and / or occasion...

plus these days u cannot tell a persons ethnicity based on their hair - there are so many alternatives out there now.

I completely agree with Jazz. I think she is going to want her hair straightened for a very long time, but I honestly think that later on in life she will take you for not straightening it with chemicals.

If it makes you feel better my daughter told me last week that all the girls in her class wish they had her hair (and the girls in her class all have straight hair as they are caucasian and chinese), because of the many different styles she can wear her hair.

When she made the comment I did think of you JY

i can't explain how it makes me feel...the mind thing deep; it's one thing the majority of other races have straight hair...but how to explain to them when they see the majority of black women also have straight hair...the way the human mind of a child works is to say 'that is the way hair is supposed to look'...they will start to question why they are different;
i feel very strongly about the hair thing...it's a straight up denial of our heritage; they always speak of getting their hair 'fixed' or some foolisheness about 'black women can't swim or go in the rain or sweat or blah blah blah...why??
because chemicalized hair is our norm?
