Kudos to Joe Jackson...

for helping his wife raise their family...a reasonably good family... and for giving Michael, especially, the discipline he used to help him become distinguished in his field...

It could not have been easy for Mr. & Mrs. Jackson to keep nine children in line...and yet Papa Joseph has not really been acknowledged for it.

Congrats Mr. Jackson; you did the best you could with what you knew...

...I hear you ...and it was not all commendable...but which family is perfect?...

In this case, all the children have had some kind of career and were never in any 'trouble'.

It was a hard call but we cannot ignore it; he made them.

Moreover, Michael was asked if he would trade the <span style="font-style: italic">childhood call </span> (of which he didn't seem entirely bereft aka Brooke et al)
and
he said &quot;No!&quot;

The media is giving Joe a hard rap...but he recognizes it and he's responding the best dignified way he knows how...

Can't give kudos to a man that kept other women in front of his children and then used physical abuse and other threats for them to keep quiet about his cheating.

I would give kudos for being strict and di whole spare the rod, spoil the child thing. But not to the point where he became abusive.

He should get a bad rap...promoting his new group in the name of MJ.

Okay then...so he wasn't perfect...but it does not negate the fact that he brought them through as the head of the household should have...
to sixty years of marriage...
such an encouraging symbol of sticking together
no matter the up and downs
rather than swapping black dog fi monkey...
at a time when family life all over the world is in shambles.

Let's give credit where credit is due and leave him
to his conscience on the rest.

Joe was the hard times...so guess you can call it tough love!

You can encourage people in different ways. My mother got on me about reading and writing with the belt, it worked. So Joe used his method...

Someone commented that he was not unlike many of the black men of that era (re the discipline methods et al) in Gary, Indiana, but he got his set out of the two bedroom house...whereas many of them stayed...:think;

My parents were married for over fifty years and it certainly was not all peaches and cream, but it held the family together.
It even seem short when they died...
and although my Mom was the stern one,
I find myself recalling so many things she said
that were so cool (now I can understand)
that as a hotheaded youth I didn't quite get...but she stood her ground...and My Dad would support her.
Family.

I have a theory that once you reach a certain age and
stage in life, then you have to take responsibility for yourself.
Figure out who you want to be and go be that person.
Erase all that which would hold you bck.
Put garbage in the garbage can.
Get hold of yourself and make your life beautiful.
If you can't manage, get help.
Get a <span style="text-decoration: underline">relationship</span> with Father God.



Mr. Jackson had an idea of what he wanted for his family; he delivered...with the help of Father God.

They have been a tad ungrateful.

Yes and he will probably pay dearly fi mashin up the minds of more than a few of his yutes givin' to him to take care of by God. The mount a beatins with chairs etc. He will pay in one way or another.

(((MrsAhmidis))) while I respect your theory, as someone who has lived a similar childhood <span style="font-style: italic">(albeit without the musical talent and prospects)</span> I see a man who prospered as a result of his children's talents, I see children who as adults, have been unable to put all the garbage in the garbage can -as evidenced by their different actions, behaviours or lifestyles as adults, and I see a woman of strength, whom during the time period involved and likely her own upbringing and values, stayed strong for the children, kept them together and did whatever necessary, suffered the unimaginable, and still maintained the family unit, in spite of the abuse. My mother was such a woman. It was only years later, did I truly understand all the reasons why my own mother stayed and subjected herself to the unimaginable for so long.


Although many of us make do and overcome such childhood experiences, the damage done by a father cannot be reversed, nor simplified, and not all life's garbage can be so easily disposed of.

Reading these just make me think of how grateful I am that I post on a board with so many people who KNEW Joe Jackson and the Jackson family PERSONALLY.

Funny that the same MEDIA which we deride is the one we so sincerely depend on AND QUOTE in our quest to be judge and jury over this family. I suppose it is only acceptable when the media spews the diatribe that supports our thoughts.

If we were to believe what we read here, only &quot;our&quot; parents seemed to possess the &quot;How-to&quot; book on raising children.

Instead of being critical experts we ought to be thankful.

If there were no Joe Jackson, there would be no Michael Jackson. All most parents (including us) can do is OUR best. Michael, along with his other siblings CHOSE as they became ADULTS!!! We need to follow Michael's advice and &quot;start with the man/woman in the mirror&quot;.

We should also be careful that while we are here keeping ourselves busy by riding Joe, our respective families are not suffering equal neglect...while we are here distracted on our computers...who knows?

Michael might not have had the childhood he wanted back in the 60's and 70's but is your child in the 2000's having the &quot;perfect&quot; childhood? What will your child have to say about you 20 years from now? Solitude can be seen as a form of abuse as is pushing a child too hard.
