I suggest you check very carefully with your company policies as well as checking with the state.

not every state does the same thing.


I dont even remember what I had, mi juss know it was 3 mths and then after that mi flex(3 days a week) fi bout a year

That's a tough one. It's wrong if a woman cannot get paid maternity leave. Period. I do know people who have had to use paid vacation time for this though. I guess the thing to do is just go ask. Then you won't be sitting there wondering.

Is 11 years I been with this company so I know they will work with me... But is a small company so they don't pay for my time off...


Ceabee and I were having a discussion in the shout box about maternity leave so I started the thread to gather info...

i think it depends on the number of employees and if the company is covered by fMLA

as bandi mentioned we were discussing this issue in SB, and i was telling her about a company that i worked for that fired a co-worker while she was off on maternity leave

i can only speak for my job. my job (same location, same as it was BEFORE i left) is held for 16 weeks.

and if the employer has over 50 employees.

This is one of the main reasons I target large corporations to work for. mi cant tek the stress with the likkle one dem

if your company pays for your benefits ie dental vision drugs etc...do they still pay it while u on mat leave or u deh pan yuh own?

Benefit plans can differ from one employer to another. Some control their own sick leave plans. Others have short or long-term disability insurance plans administered by insurance companies.

Employers should inform employees of existing benefit plans. Where these exist, employees should know how to apply for benefits.</div></div>

vegas if your extended benifits if split between employee and employer (most are) then when you are on Mat leave you still have to pay your share of it.

It is not a Govt regulated thing so it would be best to check with your HR/Benifits department.

Off the top of my head vegas the extended benefits depend on what in your agreement. Eg my place them pay for every thing the month you leave and the month you come back and while you getting the top up. After that you have to pay for it to keep it ...I will be back ...

i couldnt see nething in our manual dat say nothing bout if dem pay fi benefits while u on leave or not. rite now i dont pay for any of it the company pays 100%. but dem say u entitled to 65 wks off i thought it was only 52 interesting.

you will get 52 off with EI payments maybe there is more. I didnt see anything in our manual either so I called the big HR and the girl emailed me the document. Didnt ask my HR Officer cause dont want to start any rumors
