well the "readathon" starts next couple weeks.

it kicks off with the principal reading at the local "big" bookstore and then you can buy books for that week at the store. the store will donate part of the purchases to the school

and then the reading begins. kids log how many minutes they read for a mth..and ask family members to sponsor them example 1c or 5c per minute read...at the end of the readathon, the minutes are tallied up and the sponsors pay up to the school.

My niece school start too. They did one in the summer too.
They get a free pizza and award at the school for the top reader. She win 2yrs in a row for her grade.

That's a good reward idea Gen, will tell my sister to suggest to the school.

yes Ms Exced, the kids really love going into the bookstore with their cards and buying books for themselves
