Nylah very valid point ... I know I have issues and highly likely I would be induced and I dont think a midwife would want to deliver me at home but it would be something I think is a nice option for many people.

agreed Twiny. I know I would perfer to have my kids at home - I hate hospitals b/c I have seen the inside of one too many times - but I would never be militant about it and risk my health and that of my child.

I doubt with my history a mid-wife will work with me but I will see what they say when the time comes

my gf just wanted to be at home and comfortable when she had her first child. Having a sense of security and familiarity is important for some women. She was on her own (fiance turned out to be a liar and a loser) so all she had was her friends and the midwives to help her thru it all. That was her motivating reason for it.

But with the 2nd baby that was impossible and she did not put up a fight whatsoever when they said she needs medical intervention. Her midwives saved her life by not allowing her to have her 2nd one at home. A good mid-wife will know when to step aside and let a doctor take over.

yes Nylah mi agree. when the time comes its a decision to be made based on the situation....

the thing that appeal to me is the comfort of ur own home etc.but mi fraid fi nasty up mi house but obviously my perception of birth being this bloody thing is somewhat

I did the hospital route ... but no drugs ~

for me - it was amazing and easy ... no big flood when the water broke - just a little trickle. got to the hospital around 5:00am. Doctor visited me around 8:15am or so - told me by the end of the day I would have my baby. He went of to his clinic to do his daily appointments.

around 9:30am pain ramped up to painful ... but not cuzz worthy ~

around 10:00am they told me I would want to push .. but not to ... 10:50am they told me to push ~ 11:21am BwoyChild was born. My Doctor missed it!! Around 12:00pm I got up and walked to the recovery room.

we laughed about it ... pretty much - I sneezed and he popped out!!

I would have done it again in a heartbeat!!! but - as fate would have it ~ I was to only give birth to one. by the time I met my real life love, I was too old to think about more baby birthin

U a prepare u birth plan?? Birth plans rarely go according to plan..

My first child: I was waitressing at a Mexican Restaurant full time and worked a double shift while having contractions, went home, took a shower, and left for the hospital around 11 p.m., delivered early a.m. No drugs.

Second child, four years later: was in labor for a day, contractions stopped, picked up again the next night, waited until the last minute to get to the hospital - was 9 centimeters when I checked in! Delivered early a.m. no drugs and told the nurse not to call the doctor until my son crowned cuz I didn't want the episiotomy.

I wait 'til the last minute cuz I can't stand them poking at me every five minutes and I like to walk around and keep busy. When my son was 4, I decided I was finish having babies and got tied off. Told the father if he wanted any more he better find somebody else.

Relate my childbirth experiences to Missus_Vegas? *rubbing hands with glee* One little likkle ting doah ... all birth is "natural" either vaginal or c-section

I had two c-sections 3 years apart in a small reseach hospital for women in Washington, DC. First was after 12 hours of contractions every 3-4 minutes with not much progression in dilation, I was not a happy camper. I almost smacked my sweet man when he would look at the uterine monitor and regularly announce, "Hold on there sweeetie, here comes a big contraction!" Grrrr. Doctor then offered pitocin or c-section. I vehemently said "No!" to pitocin and may have growled. Only remember spouse asking doc and nurse to give us a few minutes as I was now "acting like a virago." We calmly discussed options. I said I just wanted to have a healthy baby and let's get this &*^% over wid nuh! So we had c-section. They attempted the epidural. I was a little nerve-wracked and ended up being put completely under. Typically only medical personnel allowed when patient is not awake, but they allowed my spouse. He loves operations and blood and gore. Next thing I know I was trying to open my eyes to "Sweetie! Red hair! Ten pounds! He's here!"

C-section babies look like peaceful little Buddhas as they haven't been traumatized by the birth canal.

Three years later, I had the choice for vaginal birh after c-section (V-BAC they called it). With ultra-sound measurement, etc., it looked like another big baby. So I happily opted for a c-section. Same hospital, same doctor, different anesthesiologist. Epidural went well. 9.5 pound boy delivered. I was awake. Spouse was assistant doctor Baby was beautiful and staff was so happy that doctor gave son APGAR score of perfect 10!

Recovery after both went well. My mother, an ob-gyn nurse who gave birth to 6 pickney 7-9 pounds vaginally , called from Jamaica to tell mi to "Tan up traight! Doan ben ovah after di surgery! Walk proud and smile through di pain!" I did. With morphine

For medical folks reading this - yes I had Glucose Tolerance Tests after both births as precaution from doctor. No sign of diabetes. Just big hawse-tearing pickney run in both sides of family

vegas I am with you on the above I am so scared of childbirth plus last year my bestess friend gave birth. She asked me to be there with her am telling you the doc and nurse asked me to leave the delivery room.... no childbirth is not for me.
