I was talking about how to handle confrontation. We did it when the kids were little about how to handle bullies.

We have done it to teach them how to respond the day someone says something racist to them. Sadly also how to respond to a police officer if they should get pulled over as they are older.

We talk to them about situations they see as the news and use it as a (*gasp* @ the overused term) 'teachable moment'

Edited to add more: Given the granny is high up in the church and all I am sure she taught her son abstinence before marriage but did she teach im in the case where abstinence can no longer be held to use a condom?

I say that because I have a work friend who was raised Catholic and she had 6 (5 girls 1 boy) kids. She never taught her kids anything about birth control because it was against her religion. Guess what. Each girl had a baby within 1 year of finishing high school... all out of wedlock and all dumping the baby daddies whilst pg. The son does not have any kids but now lives with an older woman with kids.

Babysitter for a granny could be the nurturer role.

To put a positive spin on this granny should take the lead to diffuse the situation.
In a polite way tell Missy she was out of order and perhaps Missy is stressed with work &amp; raising 2 children. If they like perhaps (granny &amp; missy) can work out a schedule which can give missy the break she needs to help missy be a better parent and granny can use that time to be a nurturer to her grandchildren?

Shandra that is why I put it in quotes ... the tone of the mother sounds to me like her son is a perfect angel led astray by Missy.I will not forget the conversation my father had with me and my sis many moons ago ... he said &quot;you name woman too&quot;. Cant go into the background of what led to the conversation here and now but it was a lesson to say don't be quick to judge another woman. I have 5 bros and I have seen them do things that if my mother knew it would break her heart but they didn't follow the example my father set. And sadly some of it is my parents fault though indirectly and yes I have told my mother yes your DIL is so and so but guess what your son is guilty of xyz contributing to the situation being the way it is but he made his bed let him lie in it. Too often parents aren't willing to see their role or their child's role in creating the situation.
