ok, i know this is a tradition for most - some hold it before di baby come and some after.

i feel that if/when i have a crumbsnatcher i would feel weird holding a traditional baby shower sakea how mi nuh waan people feel like dem haffi finance mi breeding and i hate being center of attention . jus mi personal preference.

i will excuse mi pushy girlfriends who i know wud want to buy running stroller and ting because dem love me. but di random friends and aquaintances shudden feel like dem haffi get mi nutten.

any of oonu had dis dilema or going thru it now? how oonu resolve it?

as an invitee, mi normally just mek di baby a blanket caw it feel more personal and i've been out of town fi di last few so missed di asinine diaper pon di forehead "games"

my friends did the traditional baby shower.

I didnt have one because i guess i felt like u FT.

whoever did want to buy me something did. the people from the office got me a gift certificate.

had a 'shower' but the people that threw it on my behalf understood what kind of person i was (so none of di foofool games). the people that threw me the shower understood the circumstances of my pregnancy and the shower was their way to outwardly show me support. Only one person from work was invited to my shower.

The rest of bakrah did a "cake and best wishes" and then gave me a gift certificate.

mi definitely not into "only women invited" business and mi not against people a beat dem juice responsibly.

was it more like a gathering of di frenz? did u have to opin gifts fi people ooh and aah over?

i like the concept of a shower but hate wat it has evolved into...

i HATED my shower

it was planned by the outlaws...most of their friends and compadres were invited...it was women only....


if i were to do it again I would want to plan it myself...do a jack and jill gathering...skip the stupid gift bows and paper hat ting....and made it more fun and less stuffy....

The last shower I was invited to (but neva went) They did it as a Uni-sex BBQ ting. it was a young newlywed couple so gifts were requested/expected. But dem neva do the traditional games an dem ting deh.

My shower was actually a party, so it wasn't a surprise. Food and friends of both di current mr ilp and me. The event was sports oriented, as that is the kinda people we (ahn most of our friends) are. We played nuff chunes and the men (ahn few of the ladies) drank. i couldn't partake

We did have presents to open (bwoy did wi ever) and it was fun to ooh and ahh... di current mr ilp sister (the hostess) made a stipulation that the guys had to bring something for di current mr ilp and the ladies had to bring things for me. I am sure that for married couples, the wife just picked up both gifts no bow on head, no diaper game, very informal...it was a good time.

when everything was said ahn done...wi packed up the truck and came back ah wi yaad. his sister brought the rest of gifts over the next day.

For my first, the baby shower was actually put on by Washington DC alumni from my high school in Jamaica. I was new to the city and they were just starting a chapter, so this was one of their social activities. They actually coordinated it secretly with Mr. PZ who bought a new rocking chair for the occasion.

My second shower was a gift certificate from co-workers which I used to buy a battery-powered baby swing

I did not expect either shower and, if they had asked me, I would have declined to have one. But they didn't ask me

I escaped the baby shower madness and nuff a mi friends enjoyed being child free neva have much a dis stuff.. There was one who had an accidental pregnancy at 40 so we just made it a small party and did not partake in the games. She had her list ready and so we went shopping!
