Well, we are down to 3 weeks til court day! I am counting the days. God knows how happy I am to just get past that day. This month was National Adoption Month and I do regret we missed out on it. I understand the Judges sign off on adoptions like it's a running contest. If our business was straight, we could have been in it. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

Anyhow, little miss Mom called again a week ago with a tired ole story of an aunt interested in Kimmy. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img] Then she does not have a number for her and has not called back. I think the Case Manager is finally seeing what I've been telling her. This girl will call every now and then to keep the pretense of being concerned about Kimmy but not carry through on anything. Not a month ago she wanted visits but never called back. Playing with the system. Thankfully this worker is not entertaining her.

My confidence in the Judge is very high in that she is satisfied that Kimmy remains with me and she was the one who ordered the TPR be filed herself. When she signs off on it next month, we are basically home free. I doubt if anyone will come forth to protest it in the 30 required days. It would be cool beans if the Judge would forego the 30 days and allow us to go ahead with the adoption procedures due to the circumstances. There is no one that is going to contest the TPR order and follow through. I would be very surprised if someone did.

Ms.Kimmy is growing by leaps and bounds. Doing marvelously! Still not potty trained but hopefully she will be before she graduates high school. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] Getting ready to sign her up for Headstart. Her Daycare teachers gave her a raving review with the Case Manager. Ok. The TPR packet is completed and ready to be signed by the Judge next month. There is a required waiting period of 30 days after after the signing for the parents or family to "contest or appeal" the TPR and show reason why it should not be or that they are qualified to take over Kimmy's care.

After the 30 day period is over, if there is no change to the TPR, I can then file for adoption. It takes about 2 months, I am told, for that to go through. Then I think there is a 6 month period for them to appeal the adoption. After that, Kimmy is officially mine and there is no chance for Mom to ever come back for custody. If phanthom Dad comes out of the woodwork claiming he never knew he had a child, and DNA proves she is his child, there are laws that protect his interest but he has to show he is qualified to take her. They have sent dozens of letters to 2 may-be Dad's and neither has responded. Silencio es de oro. "Silence is Golden".

It has been over 2 years since Mom has seen Kimmy, so I am confident that any appeal will be denied. She actually abandoned her baby. It's almost as if she put her on the DFCS doorsteps and strolled away without a word. Hopefully, all will go well.

it's been a long haul

by now "mom" is probably wrestling with the care of the new baby

now i wish i had adopted abu's older brother also - he wasn't up for adoption

it's amazing how his "mom" acted like i was babysitting him until she got her self together - i've had no contact with her for about 8 years now - that attitude was scary

Yes, isn't it amazing how they drop them like that and just figure they can reappear whenever they are ready and interrupt a child's life? Kimmy has no known memory of this girl and would not have a clue why she would be visiting with her.

We had our meeting this morning and our case manager said point blank, because I asked her directly, her goal is for Kimmy to be adopted. She has, though, decided to arrange a visit with her because by law "she still has that right". [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img] What a joke. Trying to get a visit in right before we go to court. Thank God they will end when the TPR is signed. But she does not need to see one hair on this baby's head. She won't get but that one. She has to be there on time, for one hour and will be monitored. If she is not there in 20 minutes, Kimmy goes back to Daycare! They will have to get her from Gwinnett (Norcross) and take her to Fulton (College Park). You know that distance. So they will not be playing with her. She hopes she does not show up. So do I!

I asked if she will be taken into custody if she comes and surprisingly, she said little miss Mom asked the same question. She is more concerned with her "freedom" than seeing her child. Even if she were taken back into care, she is no stranger to running away. See the baby and run again. But she does not want to be in care even if it means not seeing Kimmy. She did say that the foster care department will be notified the day before and the day of, is she appears. I don't think she will risk being seperated from the newest baby though. I'd love to have him too, but she has a chance to be a Mom with him and I hope she does a good job this time.

good news!

i wouldn't put to much stress into thinking about the birthmother - she's had many many days to reach out to her and didn't - that day won't be any different - it's nice to tell the social worker you want to see her

abu hasn't heard a peep from his birthmother since 2 - and we have an open adoption through the agency

plus your judge appears to be on your side - won't she want to know what's going on with that TPR?

Lot of that going around - my great neices mom is like that, and the authorities keep taking them away, and she just makes more! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img] They go to court on Tuesday, so I'm waiting to hear what the judge says... (from what I understand she is tough on these types of cases) then I'll be following close behind msgoody's path, pushing for custody of babygirl.

Thanks Nanook and Bink. It has been a long 19 months and it feels like longer than that. I am so glad that this month has finally come so that I can go over the first hurdle. From there, I think we are home free. It takes 30 days to appeal the TPR and my case manager has a Lawyer that makes an adoption go thru in less than a week! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img] If she can do that, I am all for her. The sooner the better.

Wow! I knew a woman back in the 80's who had about 10 children and the state took all of them. She had them for the state. Even a set of twins. She could quote scriptures like they were posted in front of her and made a song out of Revelations 14 but was as special as the day is long. I don't know what she was diagnosed with or if she was getting treatment. She had a husband too. I wish I could have gotten Timmy and Jimmy. They were so cute! GOSH!!! I typed a long drawn out something and the darn electricity popped off. AARRGGHH!! Well, here's the short version.

I took K-Girl for an appointment on yesterday. We sent almost 2 hours there. She's good. Her height has made her weight stretch out and the Nutritionist is glad that she's not looking like a short chunky midget anymore. She has a slight bellyache though.

Anyways, we grocery shopped to kill time til traffic died down. Kimmy fell asleep and I scooped her out the car and put her to bed. She slept over an hour. I had to work half a day, so I dropped her at Daycare about 1. I came there to find out that our case manager was blowing up my 3 phones and everybody else's looking for us. I keep my cell phones off when we have appointments. It seems, lo and behold, they scheduled an 11:00 visit with Kimmy and her birth mom. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] Ain't nobody told me nothing! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bexbad.gif[/img] Nobody took the time out to call me Monday and give me the heads up.

I would love to think that I sabatoged a visit, [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif[/img], but little miss mom never called or showed. Typical. Either they don't believe me when I tell them that girl is not interested or serious about seeing this baby, or they are just complete idiots hinging on what "the law" says. I understand that she has rights until the TPR, but she has not exercised those rights in over 2 years, why now?! Let her move on with her life and stop trying to interrupt ours. I am not heartless or cruel, but I am always thinking of what's best for Kimmy and the fact that she abandoned this baby over 2 years ago and never looked back until now. It's is too flipping late!

Now she says she may reschedule a visit if she calls. But she does see this as leverage and plans to tell the Judge about the no call/no show. She's not going to mention that Kimmy was not actually there waiting for the visit. Very good. The Judge is sure to see this as an indication that parental rights are sure to be terminated. I don't see the point in arranging some last ditch effort to see Kimmy before she lose her rights anyhow. What's the purpose? She's better off not knowing what she is losing since she has no idea what Kimmy looks like since she was 5 or 6 months old. Leave well enough alone and focus on the little boy she supposidly has.

I cannot wait until the court day. I am so ready to be over this first hurdle. We start the adoption conversion hopefully the day after court. Soon this long road to glory will be over.
