Well, we go to court tomorrow. I am hoping to be given the opportunity to speak on Kimmy's behalf and let the Judge/Courts know what has been going on for 26 months that they are not aware of. I am quite certain they have no clue about what this child has been through at the hands of DFCS. Especially the fact that this teenage Mom has not seen her baby in over a year and a half. The 5th Foster Mom said she never saw Mom, she only had the baby from Jan. 06 to Mar.06. I am Foster Mom #6 and hopefully the last.

Pray for us that I can/will be heard and can report some good news for a change. Then we go back on Wednesday where the same tired Community volunteers smile in our faces and take down information that apparently never reach the Judges. I have somewhat to say to them as well because their reports are supposed to be communicated to the Judge and if they reported what we actually discuss, we would not be stuck in the same place for 16 months. I am no longer letting DFCS sit there and pretend that they have no communication with Mom and have no idea what is going on with her. I just hope to be heard in open court or behind closed doors with the Judge. However means possible, I expect to be heard.

We went to court on a wing and a prayer and I never had to utter a word to the Judge. God did it all!

I voiced to the DFCS Case Manager that I still wanted to speak to the Judge and I also communicated that to her Attorney. They recruited an Advocate to represent Kimmy since her standby did not standby today and the Guardian Ad Litim could not do it because it was a "conflict of interest". I asked what that meant and got an "I can't go into details." [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] Then she let it out that he would be representing Kimmy in the adoption. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img] Of course that got me to thinking.

Anyhow, when we got inside, the Bailiff did his usual "That little Kimmy is something else" jokes. As we waiting in the Lobby, everybody that came through the door got the WalMart welcome from her. Hello!!! One Attorney called her the WalMart greeter. The Judge distinctly remembered her to. That was a plus. They went through the proceedings and the CM was nervous. None of us could understand it. Even her Attorney asked her later, why was she so nervous. I think it may have been the 2 sheets from my legal pad that was filled front to back with what I had planned to tell the Judge concerning the train wreck this case was on.

After hearing the County's side, I was surprised that she opened up about what has been going on for the first time. She even said they had ended their search for anymore relatives. Something she never told me. Mom's advocate said she is upset with what is about to happen, she does call a few times and ask how Kimmy is and she was well aware of what was going down today and still did not show. The Judge said she is content with all the testimony and approved them to start the TPR and Adoption process. I was so happy!!! The Attorney asked if I still wanted to speak to the Judge, absolutely not! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70459-hugs.gif[/img] I went up and personally thanked her though. She said she had something for Kimmy and gave her a nice big book about a baby and his family. I believe the author is Jamaican or African. It's a very nice book and a surprising gift from a Judge. She commended me for taking such good care of Kimmy and said she wants her to remain with me.

I also learned that the new baby WILL be taken when he's born and possibly placed with me. She is not going to school or working and obviously has not sought medical care for this pregnancy. Thank God she has made it to the 8th month. I expressed to her advocate that I will never withhold her child(ren) from her and she can see them if/when the adoption is done. She does feel bad about what is going on. I was glad to hear that although I still feel it is worth it to be taken back into care to see your child. After all, she has a history of running. I'm sure she may run again after she has Junior. She does NOT want to be confined in a foster home. I feel for her but I feel more for the babies. She's already on her path in life, they need to be directed not to follow that path.

Altogether, it was a good day for us. I have hope, but I also keep in mind that nothing is written in stone until the ink has dried on the adoption papers and the 6 month period has passed. As long as she is still in care, there is always the possibility of someone coming out of the woodwork although I hope and pray nobody does. I feel Kimmy is finally home now. Everyday she walks through our doors, she proclaims, "Kimmy's Home!!!". I want her to always be able to say and mean that.

Congratulations to you both!! You have always been well prepared, documented your case, have always shown up to advocate what is best for Kimmy, showed them how well taken care of she was and of course helped shape Kimmys' wonderful personality so that she would be remembered. What a test though.. I am sure it will all go through in time and when you look back one year after the 'gotcha day' (the day the adoption is finalized), you will barely remember the pain, just the joy

You are absolutely right! One day later and I get the message from the Case Manager that Mom called and asked what went on in court. When she found out she started bawling that she wants her daughter, she don't want somebody else to raise her daughter and she thought they (DFCS) were going to keep her until she got herself together. All of that pulled my heart string because I am sensitive like that. But I am more sensitive to the needs and concerns of my Kimmy.

She told her that she waited too late. She has been in care for 26 months today and she has not seen her in 19 of those months. She told her that to move Kimmy could psychologicaly affect her for life and that she is well taken care of. She said everytime she see her in court, at the Daycare, wherever she is always nicely dressed in Dora, Pooh Bear, new shoes, hair done. She's thriving and doing good. She asked if the same lady had her. She claims they always kept her from her baby. That's not true. I asked them all the time if her or someone wanted to see her and they said no one ever asked to see her. Then, she would not come to see her because she did not want to turn herself in.

Now she's willing to turn herself in after her baby shower. She is being taken care of by the current Father of her unborn. I am glad that she stressed to her that we are going forward with the TPR/Adoption of Kimmy, but she will do all she can to help her keep her son. Who knows if she will deliver and get the running spirit again? The TPR is supposidly going to affect the new baby as well. I'm not sure how that happens. She told her she is going to give up. She did that 19 months ago actually. Now that reality is staring her in the face, she wants to take some level of responsibility. I am glad they are not having it. She did tell her that I am not planning to ban her out of Kimmy's life. She can have supervised visits and remain a part of her life from a distance. I do wish her well with Junior, but Kimmy is set for life and already has a stable home for herself.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and prayers. I have gotten so much encouragement from this thread and the pm's that we share. Kimmy and I thank each and everyone of you and we are going to continue to keep hope alive, keep the faith and be together for the rest of our lives. Each milestone, I keep you guys in mind and prepare for the next one.

This struggle to keep her makes my love for her grow stronger every day. Even when she's working the next to the last nerve, I think about what if she were not here to do that, and I have to smile. She gets away with a lot of things because of that, but only the small things. She's well spoiled but well disciplined as well. She knows when Mommy means business.

If it happens that we have her baby brother in the home with us, I can't wait to see her reaction. She has a shirt that says, "It's All About Me" and that's exactly the way she see's it. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img]

Thanks Seveen. Things are moving in the right direction for us now and I am praying for conclusion by the beginning of 2008. I found out on Friday that our current case manager with DFCS took a job elsewhere so we are losing the one who had vowed to see us all the way thru Adoption. She plans to turn the case over to Adoption before she leaves so that we can start with the new Case Manager that we would have had anyhow. Saves us from getting a new Foster Case Manager.

I only hope she fills this person in fully. She said she knows that I will. Absolutely! I just hope she keeps her word which she has not done faithfully since we started with her in May. It's tedious but necessary to tell the same story over to yet someone else new, but they do not keep good paper trails.

Mom did not turn herself in because she wants to go straight into a Maternity home instead of a resource home. She has to go there first until they approve the funds to pay for her stay in the Maternity home. She does NOT want to go to another Foster Home but she will have no choice when Junior is born. I think it would be better now so that she can get used to where she will be living, rather than leave the Hospital and go to a new place. Still proof that she is not capable of making decisions or thinking things out and the end results. She should not be without strict supervision with this new baby. I hope to heavens they keep her away from boys/men if possible. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70384-praying.gif[/img]
