Should Black Parents give their children European names?

Funny this thread should come up as we are all coming up with names for a family member who is expecting a boy and a girl. The expectant parents do not want an english sounding nor an african/arabic sounding name so we are looking at Egyptian/ Ethiopian/Polynesian

The key is instead of inventing African sounding names that sound ridiculous...people need to dig into their history and select real African names.

I know a little girl named Tequila poor thing. and my sister out law is name Shevelle (from car: Chevelle?) I know twins named Devin and Devon and mi still don't know which is which them is 8 now

My church has a large African population mostly from Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria. The following are some first names:
Mabel
Gladys
Delight
Love
Patience
Memory

Then the usual:
Ngozi
Chiamaka
Chisom
Addo
and with my first name - Gungo - I fit right in

My mother gave my brothers and myself VERY European names Stacey Lynn, Patrick Paul and Kevin Austin. Our last name is clearly German. I have gotten some surprised looks over the years when coming into some situations where my name was known before they met me face to face. No time to judge us!! I have had a few people over the years that have said "I assumed you were white when I saw your name... (wherever)". My daughter(Tiffany Elizabeth Lee) is getting ready to have her first child (due Sept. 30) and is naming HER Lincoln Simone. At first everyone including me kind of said hummnmmn. But it grew on us after a few days and now everyone loves it. It has a certain flow to it (especially with her last name). It doesn't even matter if it's traditionally a boy's name. Last month some TV celeb named her baby girl the same thing. Parents should name their kid what you want as long as it isn't anything that will humiliate the child or bring shame on them as adults. I think our European names suit us just fine.
