If ever there is a soul gyal, that would be me. I LOVE soup, all kinds, BUT I never cook with a recipe. Never. So little good I will be here. I make pumpkin soups, bean soups,lentil soups, sips, vege soups, fish tea, fish soup, squash soups, potato soups, you name it. I find that there are soup people and those who don't love it like I do. Just recently I befriended a woman who just moved to Jamaica, and she and I go out to eat sometimes. I tell you I was excited when I found out she's also a soup lover. Now I have the fun of taking her to all my favorite soup spots in Jamaica. On occasion I will eat a bowl of chicken foot / red pea soup just as long as there's no foot in my bowl. But short of that, I make pure non meat soups.

BTW, I always say, if you can make a good pot of soup you will always sell it off here in Jamaica, people love them soup bad. I have never seen a man who has soup left in the pot at the end of the night. Never!

Even if you don't have a 'recipe' you still have a method, right? Measurements whether specified or approximated etc.

So come on man! Being a soup lover, you have an edge to me (I am not particularly fond of soups but am making an effort to broaden my horizons ) and you'll know what tastes good!

Given the types of soups I make, what kind are you looking to make and I will give it my best shot. Remember, I live and cook in Jamaica, but not all my food is Jamaican. Seen.

Pepper pot soup is one of my favorite.


2 Quarts of water
2 pounds of spinach
1 pound of stew meat
1 onion
1 scot bonnet pepper
3/4 thyme
1 teaspoon salt

Bring water to boil and add the meat, onion, pepper and spinach. Cook until meat is tender. Add spices and add your yam, dumplings and sweet potatoe.

I thought it was ( a gwine seh coco leaf but mi noh sure) mek peppa pot soup....an most people use calalooo instead.

Tanya you can use calaloo.........I use spinach cause mi no always have calaloo on hand
