Ethnic stores have the least expensive prices for oxtails.At the markets nearby,they are $2.99 per lb and up,on sale,they're $2.29.I love them and sometimes I splurge,but for this party I'd need at least 15 lbs!

Thanks guys. I will check out the West Indian stores first. I get spices from there sometimes but never really paid attention to the meat freezers.

I want to give an accurate per pound price but let's say I pay about $12.00 for 6 lil mawga pieces of oxtail at Publix. I think that is outrageous when I know that when my granny cooked it, it was a cheap piece of meat.

When I did my cooking experiment the other week with the oxtails, it was because they were on sale at the farmer's market for like $4.99/pound. They were lean, full, and good looking though. Much better than Publix.

At most I feed 2 people on the regular. I could not afford to feed us oxtails at these prices. It's like a [censored] delicacy.

Its a great idea , as suggested to nix the festival and the patties.. if yu must have patties, buy them! AND as already suggested, maybe curry chicken instead of curry goat..and remember to cut the chicken in bite sized pieces for curry. Good Luck and have fun!

supermarket is not the first choice to purchase oxtails that should be last resort

And goat mussi 10 dalla fi one lil bag weh feed 3 people

di halala butcher is a bit cheaper but last time mi buy oxtail it was rancid IMO

My butcher's oxtail is sold out the same day him get it so if you want piece you better go Wed...no time to get rancid.

Thanks again to all who posted,the party was a huge success! Everyone enjoyed the food,I ended up making:
homemade mini beef patties(alot of work but well worth it)
watermelon pineapple mangoes
mixed green salad
jerk chicken
fried fish (I made the escovitch, vinegar,peppers,onions,carrots on the side.I know that's not authentic but several guests do not like hot food,that way each person could spice it up how they wanted)
braised chayotes
fried plaintains
homemade festival
fruit punch
rum punch
rum cake
ice cream cake
Everything was homemade,I think when you care enough,you don't mind doing the work.

Chayote is a gourd common
to Caribbean cuisine and it
goes by many aliases chocho
mirliton,christophene,vegetable pear.
Females have smooth skin
while males have prickly skin
