Thanks Kia - I sure will - I have much to share about the time leading up this and our first few weeks... I have written it down so I won;t forget - I just need some time to put it all together. We are settling into some kind of routine now so it;s getting easier.

I am excited - for us and especially for Dan - I think it will help her grow tremendously and open her eyes to much that she was probably shielded from back at home... we are always ready for an adventure so we will see where the roads lead us now that we are on this side of the world

If I could make samosas, I probably wouldn't be able to walk for my thighs rubbing together. Trouble!

I love butter chicken, but chicken tikka masala seems to be one of the most popular Indian dishes here. That and tandoori chicken which I dearly love. Also, I never knew lentils could taste so good with no seasoning meat.

Jazz, I am happy to hear your daughter is adjusting so well. When things calm down and you get a minute this year lol, you should start a spice thread as well. My chaat salad is made with spices I can only purchase at an Indian store. Mmm mmm good.

Mmm how could I forget I love me some samosas! My mother outlaw also makes these sweet balls of dough she calls gulgula. I don't know the official name for it but I could get fat on those!

They're not hard to make Tulip....I've made them a few times....but, yes, you can't have too much! lol

Yes, lentils are great. Lentils are also used to make dhals and can be flavoured in a variety of ways. Jamaican-Indians use the yellow split peas and flavour it with geera and garlic (some add curry...I do)....Sometimes I fry geera/garlic/onions/tomatoes together and add it to the dhal as well as pop in a scotchy to give it an extra kick!

JamBrit, I am known for asking for recipes, but I think I best let this one slide lol. Some things you are better off not knowing.

I will try the dhal recipe though. Geera is that clarified butter, right?

Edit: OK, I looked it up. Geera appears to be cumin. Sounds good.

tulip trader joe carries a frozen samosa, 10 mins in the oven/toaster oven its not home made but it hits the spot

they taste better than the ones in my work cafeteria made by Indian chef
