An Applebee's waitress has been fired after a bizarre handwritten note from an annoyed customer turned into the latest internet sensation.
The waitress in St Louis, Missouri, identified as Chelsea Welch, was shown the door two days after she posted the passive aggressive memo on the popular site Reddit.com.

Next to the line indicating that an 18 per cent tip had been automatically added to the bill, the customer, a local pastor, crossed out the tip total, replaced it with a 'zero' and wrote: 'I give God 10 percent, why do you get 18?"

She too dam cheap and outta order - the reason the tip was automatically calculated was because she had more than 8 people in her party
now she get the poor girl fired cause she ah claim that her privacy was violated.

the lyad pasta shuddan tip especially a 20 people shi bring in and got separate bills (that's why i stopped going out with the office girls friday nights - everybaddy pull out calculator and stawt squabble ovah who have one shrimp more dan di odda smaddy);

the waitress shouldn't have posted the stub which showed the patron's name and her employer identification if it was a joke.


but that said, i always tip. saturday is our breakfasts day out and for a $22 bill i leave a $5 tip.

Aris in roncy. family run. has all day breakfast roughly $9 each person. very family oriented. i always have the halibut and chips which comes with a great big salad. their portions are huge. the omelletes are the size of a football field.

I am all for tipping for good service but what's with the additional tip after the intial 18% tip was already added? Isn't that like double-dipping?

my understanding is that from large parties it's automatically added because people tend to undertip in those cases, thinking others will make up their fair share. also just for the hassle of having to print out 20 separate bill is enough fi chawge dem.

That 18% automatic grat is a bone of contention for me. Many servers, I find, don't feel they have to work for it, cause it's automatic... been out with groups where the service was surly and abrupt and just overall dismal... but the servers still got their 18% (although the last time I went out with a group the grat was 15%)...

The additional tip, I think, is for those rare breed of servers who make you feel welcomed and valued and are eager to please. Serving a large group is not an easy thing, but instead of making you feel like you're inconveniencing them, they treat every single person in the group as though they are special. In cases like that I don't believe that 18% is enough...

Also, there are places where management takes a percentage of the 18%, but anything put in the additional tip line, is just for the server...

Always try to give a little extra...20%...Does anyone feel bad when they travel outside North American and the tipping policy is less.
