ME in denial...surely you jest.
I do not know enough about the yam to be able to conclude why it was called naygah yam. Is the outside of the yam Black? I have yet to find a photo.

I am sure the white people did not name it naygah...they would have said Negro. If the outside of the yam is black or dark brown (and no one has told me yet) then at the time the word Negro was not considered to be racist....it is today.
So enlighten me.

Naygah is I believe from some forgotten ancestors tounge means farmer......
I grew up eating Vincent it always comes out as a inverted Y..relatively shallow small .. Buttery in texture...the bush is small ..... It is the earliest reaped. Before Christmas....taw an mozella then yellow then renta.
Yam is too hard a crop to plant... The hills the sticks...the length of time to reap and the reaping..it is hard work.... Renta u dig an oil well to get them out...
The book My father Son Son Johnson..... Son Son was a farmer man who wife left I'm cause im never earn enough money from a farm....and his son stuck with him... He made his money back by planting 5 acre of yam...…thats a lot of digging....a lot of hills..
But unno know mi nutting nuh gun suh....Last edited by Wahalla; 01-31-2014, 05:15 PM.

even iff itt mean farmer inn ole patwah didd dat wurd ariginated inn slaveree fe chatt bout ar describe da enslaved afrikkan farmers. naygah yam iss da yam grown bye naygah woo were afrikkans. iss naygah still da cheapest yam? itt remind mii aff wen ali ask y angel food cake was oyinbo ann devil food cake was blakk? itt like durinn slaveree inn merikka, da afrikkans woo took care aff oyinbo enslavers cows were cawl cowboys. oyinbo were cawlinn enslaved afrikkan men cow "boys" dose widdout knowledge aff dat miss seeinn da racism widd da term cowboys ann manee oyinbo now identifii demselves as cowboys. sum see cowboys as term aff endearment ignore dat racist histaree.
similar tings a gawn now widd da n-wurd dat manee oyinbo ann sum blakk ar embracinn as nan racist. mii saw red peeps, oyinbo ann missa chin inn ja cawl certain blakks ole naygah as a cuss. even iff naygah meant farmers inn ole patwah itt took on as racist coloration as inferior yam
