You don't love them, the way you did before because you have <span style="font-weight: bold">learned to live with out them</span>, yet a part of you still has love for that person.

The people that I have truly loved, I still love to this day. Just because the love is different, does not mean it is not love.

But seriously, true love implies that it is right and righteous, and if that is the case, why would two ppl part?.....if it is true love.

I watched someone who I was very close to (miss her dearly) for many year. She was in love with a man who moved away to Kingston. She could not bring herself to love anyone else, even thought they were not together. She died, never having another relationship because of her love for that man.

Me now, couldn't dweet. She was a special woman though. ((((Aunt Rose))))

that is what I am talking about. Love comes in varying degrees, IMO. I dont love my mom with the same love I have for Dairy Queen Smarties Blizzards which I love greatly as well.

But the secondary question CEW posed was about true love. If you truly love someone, they love you back. They see you and they honor what you have given them in terms of your heart and soul. And to give CEW a nod, that isnt always romantic in nature.

I am not saying you cant love someone who doesnt love you back but I dont think it is honest in some fundamental way. We have all been there.

And to me, true love is honest. It is honest about your own worth and the worth of the person you are expending this love towards.

The wording may have been unintentional but I think it is very correct: &quot;if you truly love someone, they love you back&quot;. Whether the person &quot;truly loves&quot; in return is not always guaranteed, and even if they do, it only creates the situation for a <span style="font-style: italic">potentially</span> fulfilling relationship. That's because love is simply one of the pillars that makes for a truly lasting relationship, and by itself, guarantees nothing. I don't think the majority of relationships that fail do so because the two people fell out of love; it's usually because of other issues. Those issues however become very strong and can stifle or suppress whatever loving feelings we may have had.

Jeez, I had a class tonight so maybe the brain is still in overdrive

Let me try: True love does not guarantee that the object of one's affections will offer the same in return, neither does it guarantee a fulfilling relationship. That's because love is one of one of the pillars for a functional relationship, and there could be situations where despite &quot;true love&quot;, there isn't a meeting of the minds on some of the others things that one deems important.

Alright, I disagree with you I hold what you say to be correct for the concept of love in general, but not for &quot;true love&quot;. That I feel is different. Because if something, anything is true, it is right and nothing can muddle in that &quot;rightness&quot;. And for something to be right, it has to exist on both sides.

Therefore, if love is true, I will not have to learn how to live without it. Even when someone dies, I have to learn how to live without the <span style="font-weight: bold">person </span>in my life, but not their love.

I may be splitting hairs, or perhaps influenced by too many times of seeing the Princess Bride movie but that is how I see it

I think you're guilty on both counts

Don't you think that if you theory was true, then everybody who &quot;truly loved&quot; another person would still be with that person today? If no, why not?

I am going to take what will perceived as the quick and dirty way out and say, then it never was true love It was love, but not the true kind. I cant articulate what is swirling around in my head, so that may attribute to my so-called guilt... but hey

I thought I loved someone truly, madly, deeply when I was 29 years old. Key word is &quot;thought&quot; because good honest love brings out the best in a person and not worse. So, what I thought I was feeling, for me personally, it may have felt like love but in essence it could not have been.

See, that's how complicated it gets when 'love' is romanticized. We talk of &quot;love&quot;, &quot;true love&quot;, and so on without realizing that what we bring to it is our own preconceived ideas of what those are. The problem starts when we meet someone who doesn't necessarily share those definitions, yet we might be tempted to &quot;judge&quot; the relationship based on our thoughts/ideas.

&quot;Good, honest, love&quot; is a human construct. We love someone we want what is best for, and if they bring the same attitude to the relationship, i.e. want what is best for us, and there is a meeting of the minds on the other things that are most important, then there is the basis for a meaningful relationship. Personally, I think the romanticism can be a tad dangerous. IMO, it's place is after things are established on a solid footing and not before.
