Raising a child cannot be valued as a job... Ideally it must be a labour of love. ... this devaluation of a male perspective is dangerous and we will end up with angry young men.. Hell we ahve enough....

i'm having some trouble as well with Wahalla's statements, Jaded. one thing is that he talks about the feminization of men without really saying what that means. to nuff men, his relationship with his children where he accommodates their playfulness could be seen as a kind of feminization.

also the culture which defines his family relationships right now is one which has rejected the alpha dog approach to manhood because of the extremes implied in how it also, by extension, defines the idea of womanhood and childhood in ways that degrade those subjects.

feminism in our current culture entrenched the notion of human beings being equally worthy regardless of sex, and while we can talk about male influences and female influences on boys, the reality is that we have to consider this within the cultural norms of gender equality.

what i'm seeing in this thread as evidence that a woman cannot raise a son on her own without giving him a sense of himself as man in the current society - well that evidence is not convincing to me.

it's a spin put on by conservative women that defines childcare as that which takes place in the home, and says that by wanting to work outside the home, a woman is automatically saying that child care (minding her children) is a lesser cause.

it's not true for all women and therefore, to me, is not true.

I am not sure that is what Wahalla was trying to say.

From what I gather he said that childcare is a duty that one cannot put a pricetag on and biologically women are more suited for that role as we are inherently nurturers.

I believe he also said that if two incomes are needed to run a household then by all means it is necessary.

He said that among other things. The thread has had soooo many attempts to derail, it, but it is so solid it is standing strong and even stronger than before... <span style="font-weight: bold">

As I have stated so many times, it has veered off on many tangents...tangents that are irrelevant to the main theme</span>....and which could have given rise to other interesting topics for discussion, if the &quot;derailers&quot; were sincere in having healthy dialogue...and let me quickly add, why should it be any different and not suffer the same demise as most other threads on Jamaicans.com? **chukkle**
