Eight years ago in April, my dad passed away.

I make it a day to reminice and celebrate his life. I take that day off from work and do something charitable in his name.

I doesn't matter what anyone says, the sadness lives on...

I like the planting idea. I love the idea of celebrating in some way. Taking the day off to do something nice for others is wonderful.

So many good ideas in this thread. Nylah I know you are going to plant something wonderful!

I have posted before on this subject...


Last year was was the 12 year anniversary of my Mothers death.
It was the FIRST anniversary that I did not wake up and think this is the day I lost her...

You will never forget the day it's just there like a hole in your life that can never be filled. For me, I was in mourning for 4 years after we lost her. I did not make friends, I did not go out, I went to work and I went home and hugged my dog. I was afraid to love for fear of loss. Then my boss sent me to Jamaica December of 2000 and I was there on <span style="font-style: italic">that day</span> and for the first time I realized that I could be happy again, that I could LIVE even tho she was dead. I felt like Jamaica healed me... I saw so many people suffering yet still able to smile and mek joke... it taught me that I must go on, and I must find my happiness where I can...

Time does heal, but the scar will always be there. I find it opens back up in the worst and the best times of my life... like when my baby was born, or when my best friend died.... every time I feel <span style="font-weight: bold">real pain</span> I go back to that spot when I felt the worst pain of my life...


What do I do on <span style="font-style: italic">that day</span>???

I try to be in Jamaica, the place that started my healing... if I can't be in Jamaica, I decorate the Christmas tree because she died the week before Christmas and that was &quot;our thing&quot;. She loved decorating the Christmas Tree so much... oh, and I play her damn Elvis Presley Christmas album

I celebrate the life she GAVE me, and I try my hardest not to waste that life feeling sorry for myself.

No true words have been spoken

This is the first year for me where like I said earlier, I didnt ruminate for a month before and make myself miserable before now. I shed my two tears today but it isnt as painful as before because I have made peace with the fact that he is gone. I dont like it but I am at peace with it.

PLus he'd give me an asskickin' if I kept missing him instead of living my life like he would expect me too So I know what you are saying.
