Hi folks,

Help me figure out this one.. If you owned a floral company where delivering flowers is the line of your business would you design your business model around FedEX or UPS being the delivery srvice? Think about what you know about floral companies and your expereince getting flowers in the past.

I'll tell you why I ask in a bit

You wouldn't do the delivery yourself SP? (i.e. hired drivers for your company)

Yes, Wendy, I would. I recently had a relative go through a long hospital stay. Potted orchid and bromeliad were delivered via FedEx, long stem roses by UPS, and plant by USPS. All were fresh and well-packaged.

unless the flowers are coming from abroad or cross country (ie. hawaii). i am doing the local drivers. my experience with fed ex, etc. hasn't been good

ETA: I am also a fan of keeping things local...when I can. Helps the community.

If your business has branch out to include out of state then yes I would use them. Even if is in the same state.

Last yr Vday fell on a Saturday.. So Mista Man tried to surpise me with flowers at work on the Friday (13th). All weekend he was wondering why I hadn't said anything to him. He asked if I got something from him. I did not recieve anything at work so I told him no and asked him what should I have expected. Im fuming mad jumped online an tracked the flowers from these folks. Turn out they delivered to the office at <span style="font-weight: bold">5:30 pm </span>via FEDEX. Now I don't have to tell yuh dat by 5:30 moas people gaan home soh I doan know what the heck was that about Needless to say mi neva get it til Monday when I went in and the &quot;freshness&quot; had died by then.

Now fast forward to this year.. he went back to the same company and asked them to deliver to me on Saturday - his preference since he planned activities for Saturday to avoid the Sunday rush. Again I was cluesless of his plans cause everyting was suppose to bi surprise. When wi at dinner (dis is at 6 pm) he was looking all agitated and checking his phone. I asked him what's up and a dat time im tell mi sey im order flowers and requested the day and time of delivery (saturday between 11 am to 1 pm) because he wanted me to have them before we went out. Now he is fuming mad cause obviolusly that never happened.

Mi try mi bess fi mek im noh feel bad bout it but I asked him if he used the same company like the last time? He said yes and they gave him a Fedex tracking#. I told him to STOP using this online company and use a local florist. IMO, flowers delivery suppose to be personal and not dropped off by FEDEX. And obvioulsly that company and Fedex not insync cause this is the second time in a row dem screw di delivery an ruin his surprise.

He called them and dem aplogize an sey di flowers on its way and would be delivered <span style="font-weight: bold">MONDAY!!!!!</span> dat was yeterday. Well guess wah..all now di flowas noh reach. Dem give im a $20 gift card and mi jus tell im ..noh badda even goh dey soh again. an im fi use a local service. So agree wid yuh ILP

mi nevah have nuh problem wid flowers but den again the 5 days before and after the delivery date did clear like wah, yuh couldan see from yah to kingdom




some things are best left to other companies who can do it more efficiently and less expensive, like shipping.

and unnu know seh dem shipping company cannot guarantee a ting.

as if personal delivery, by the florist, that depends maybe dem cant afford fi do dem ownah deliver.

I am not even sure if its a problem with affording drivers Gen.. I think is maybe because them is online and that's the only way they chose to deliver - via carrier srvices

Nunya .. LOL. Mi had to laugh at him. He does everything online.. but online is nat even the issue. My brother sent me a basket of fruits for my BDay last yr and it was hand delivered at the door. My bro is in Seattle and he made sure even though he ordered online, the company had a local office and ordered it through the local &quot;branch&quot;.

Most of the florists on this side are small (to be read: whole in the wall) businesses. Most times the business arranges the flowers in the morning and then (when part time help shows up to work the counter) they go out a deliver.

I do know that when ordering on line, you can specify that a local florist deliver your goods. Of course it more expensive, but to me it is worth it.

I asked him if he had this option ,..and the answer was no.. That is why mi was a ask if it really good fi have a flowas business wey is Fedex yuh a depen pan fi yuh delivery service. Granted it may work for a company that has its act together (how dem co-exist with Fedex service).. but dis wan seem not to based on this repeat offense.

when mi order is the big 800 number dem mi call -and dem seh whenever &quot;possible/available&quot; dem use local florists.

granted these are HUGE companies so them nuh have high operating costs like the local florists and them delivery is up to par.

If I had one I would probably depend on the large couriers too.

right now 2 local shops fighting the supermarkets in the nborhood because the supermarket a sell the 12 rose for 10.00 and at the shop dem a sell 3.00 fi ONE rose, suh all dat dem haffi a compete wid fi try mek likkle money suh mi nuh see weh dem a guh get money from fi do personal delivery, unless is a big local order like catering events and so on

So I went home yessiday and guess what was at the doorstep. Yep! Di flowas reach TUESDAY dat was suppose to deliva Saturday and Den pan Monday

Anyway.. it reach so mi sey mek mi jus greet it wid a smile. Guess wey it a come fram? Noh <span style="font-weight: bold">1-800-FLOWERS.COM</span>. Mi a tink to miself den dat deh company noh big an suppose to be a reputable company... Mi si dem adds all the time Soh dat did really surprise mi.

Anyway mi open up di bax an while extracting di flowas dem di rose leaves dem a drap aff wan by wan. Wi was deading wid laff at di whole siutation Poor flowas went troo Snow-magedeon and neva praspa Di chaclate dem did salvage dowe.. Tank Gad fi small mercies

Anyway mi still tink im fi X dat company dowe..aldowe dem a try put di blame pan FedEX
