In di beginning di man was charming and use to show up an pick her up so she wouldn't have to ride di subway into brooklyn. Suh mi guh seh "Tmobile, when since yuh switch fram sprint" she seh "Richard show mi seh mi can save money if mi guh pan fi him plan. 2 months later she didn't nkow what plan they had cause the bills never came but the phone was never cut off which means he was paying the bills.

7 months after that she haffi run weh gawn a Englan an now mi get an occasional hello inna yahoo.

Packed all of my stuff into a U-haul and moved it around daily to diff locations to throw him off. I stayed w/ different friends (whom he didn't know), for weeks - slept on the floor b/c he said he would shoot me, and I didn't think bullets would penetrate brick [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70394-bawlout.gif[/img] Finally moved into a new place, and w/n a day he called my unlisted # to say he knew exactly where I was. He finally just left me alone, but called a few years ago to say he missed me, and never would have hurt me, he just wanted to scare me [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

True. and what makes it harder is when you are dealing with a person with a mental illness, even when they are doing wicked things you feel sorry for them because you know it's not really 'them'. It is easy to endanger yourself for a long time while you wait for the REAL person to come to their senses..

While I wasn't physically abused (I was stalked in my house which is no better) I know the reasoning that victims go through. Now I spot abuse (of all kinds) alot easier than I once did because I know the signs.

I was driving and stopped at a stoplight where I witnessed a man and a woman. The man was all up in the womans face while she stood there with her eyes to the ground while he yelled at her. I couldn't hear what he was saying buy it had something to do with her not pushing the correct button to push to cross the street. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] He then POUNDED the correct button with his fist and continued to scream in her face. I looked directly at her but she would not look at me. All I could do is pray for her safety and pray that someone close to her will step in. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

That seems to be one of the signs. Possessive and unreasonably jealous is an early sign for a lot of this, I have observed.

I had a boyfriend that hit me - twice. When I told him twice was enough and he had to move (it was my apartment), he did. Thank God for that, and that we had no children.

I believe in discernment. And I was referring to what I now witness in other couples behaviors.. in my past situation there were no signs. His mental illness was not presenting itself until after a trauma in his life.

Well I was talking about a 'sixth sense' where it relates to us and a prospective date/partner...

For eg, I dated a seemingly nice, shy (I have a thing for shy guys [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]) guy once, even though my instincts were telling me not to...

One night we went out for coffee when he was in town and I can't remember what I said, but I know it was something completely innocuous...

Then his whole demeanor changed. He grew silent, his eyes became cold and he squeezed the coffee cup til the whole thing split and crumbled and the hot coffee fell over his hands.

It was like he became a different person, right before my eyes and all without saying a word...

I was sooo glad that I had met him at the restaurant and that he didn't know where I lived. Because the sense of danger to me was so real and so imminent, I could not ignore it any longer...

I think that oftentimes our intuition speaks to us and sometimes, because it's not saying what we want to hear, we dismiss it, to our detriment...

Yup. I believe in it. I am sure many people have dismissed the signs, if there are some.
