I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you have never been married. Believe me when I tell you, there is more likely to be bloodshed and loss of life if one is forced to stay in a place one no longer wishes to be.
You're seem rather strong-willed and not prone to changing positions. You think you'd make out better having to live with someone with opposing views?

Doesn't the gov't define marriages everywhere even if religion runs the gov't? There's always common law if the couple can manage to wait out the shack up long enough in some states. Great! At least you can share health insurance on that course.
