I agree with you Kia. I think he should step in and be there - that was my first thought. I thought it slightly odd that she'd want ME there instead of HIM, this being such an intimate situation. But as we all know - no one can say for certain what happens in a couple's relationship, the subtleties and the undercurrents.

Indeed Kia - she did see a genetic counselor. That's what I referenced earlier when I said she'd been busy seeing therapists, etc.

There's a lot of other unrelated stuff going on with them (and believe me, am staying out of it) and I think that might, just might be a part of the reason she wants me there instead of him.

If Mary want her husband AND you there then mi could understand. Then it is a matter of how comfortable are you with the termination of the pregnancy and given what you have shared with us, you are opposed to the idea.

If Mary wants just you & not him, there is a lot more going on between he & she and that may be another reason why she would want to terminate the pregnancy.

What I was trying to say is that what seems so obvious to some, is a hidden secret to others.

No right minded person would advise a woman to stay with a man who’s beating her. But sometimes in an abused woman’s mind, often, there’s nothing you can say to get her to leave the abuser. For a variety of reasons, she wont leave. She can’t see the entire picture clearly, even tho to me & you – the picture might be crystal clear.

Where my girlfriend is concerned, as you can see, I don’t support the procedure she’s decided to undergo. Yet she’s asked me to be there for her literally and figuratively. It was interesting to me that one of my relatives told me that since Mary & I have a near 20yr deep friendship, I need to be there fully supporting her. Another relative is adamant that I shouldn’t support her.

It’s one situation and yet these 2 people are seeing it totally different. They see 2 different obvious answers.
