I agree with you Kia. I think he should step in and be there - that was my first thought. I thought it slightly odd that she'd want ME there instead of HIM, this being such an intimate situation. But as we all know - no one can say for certain what happens in a couple's relationship, the subtleties and the undercurrents.

I would suggest that she see a counselor (genetic counselor maybe) who would have info on many great people who also have sickle cell. There are many people who have survived and done with living with sickle cell.
Personally I think the husband who she says will support whatever she chooses to do should be the one who is there at the procedure and comforting her.
