Kaila pulled back from Ricky abruptly and looked out the window. Ricky leaned forward to look in Kaila's face to see if he could read what was going on in her head.
"Kaila? Baby, are you alright?" She turned and looked at Ricky tears welling up in her eyes. Ricky studied her face a moment and as if the thoughts escaped out her eyes into his, his demeanor changed. "I know what you're thinking, baby I don't think so."
"Ricky we used protection." Kaila argued
"Not all the time, We've slipped up a couple times." Ricky said the confidence draining from his voice. "Look, at this point I don't care who fathered this child, but it's yours and as long as it's yours its ours. Kaila, i'm in love with you, crazy in love. I didn't even think that this child could not have been mine, I didn't care. We are a family now." Kaila looked in his eyes and her heart melted. Where was he all those nights she fell asleep crying from lonliness? She embraced Ricky as if she would never let go, as if she could pull him inside her.
"I love you too, baby. I love you too."

Couple days later Kaila was released from the hospital. Ricky thought it was best for her to stay by his place for a couple days before she went back to the beach house. Kaila argued at first. "Baby,I really think you should stay with me. At least until your couseling and rehab is done. There are bad memories in that house now and I think you should be ready mentally, before you decide to fight those demons." Inside Kaila knew she was scared to enter the house again, she didn't argue with Ricky. She stayed with Ricky going to rehab and counseling. Her belly grew as weeks turned into months. Soon it was time to find out the sex of the baby.
Kaila laid back in the doctor's office admiring all the pics of babies they had across the ceiling. "What is it that you want?" Ricky asked.
"A baby." Kaila answered cooly
"Ofcourse." Ricky didn't push the subject. Kaila has been really moody lately and he wasn't in the mood for it. Dr. crone entered the office and slapped on his gloves.
"How's Mommy and Daddy doing today?" The doctor asked as he squirted the warm liquid onto Kaila's belly.
"We're doing great." Ricky answered when he realized Kaila wasn't about to say a word. Boy has she been moody today. Kaila finally spoke.
"Why am I as big as a house? Other women my month doesn't carry this big."
"Well Ms. Richardson everyone carries their bundle differently. let's take a look here." The baby had it's back turned to them as usually. The Doctor had a hard time getting measurements as the baby was as stubborn as Kaila sometimes. "Oh my goodness." the doctor whispered to himself as he looked more closely at the monitor.
"What is it doc, everything okay?"
"Yes everything is fine, Well first thing I would like to say is i'm eighty percent sure your having a girl-."
"Surrounded by women would it ever stop." Kaila looked at Ricky sharply. He didn't make eye contact.
"What I want you listen to is the heartbeat and tell me what you hear okay parents. In the meanwhile i'm going to do a little moving here to see if I can get baby to change her position."
Ricky and Kaila sat quietly and listened at first they heard nothing, but then they heard what shocked the doctor before. It sounded like two heartbeats.
"Noway! Impossible how could we not notice another baby there before."
"Well, Ms. Richardson it happens in a few cases." The Doctor said nudging at Kaila's belly. Kaila winced at the pains. As the baby twisted to get away from Dr. Crone's prodding. "And there it is. Daddy it looks like your not alone afterall that's a boy."
Kaila and Ricky looked at eachother. Not knowing what to say. "Wait 'til Vanessa hears this." Ricky said still in obvious shock.
'Thanks for giving him back, lord.' Kaila thought to herself. 'Thanks for giving me my baby back.'

Kaila's sixth month came and with it her belly grew twice as large. She was very sensitive, aggressively sensitive as she approached her wedding. Vanessa had the honor of planning the wedding and reception, worked twice as hard to keep the bride happy throughout the process.
She hired an assistant to pamper Kaila during their days we're they were busy planning celebrity parties and the wedding at the same time. She hired the best she could find, the one that was able to handle the diva supermodels tantrums without lawsuits or animosity. Kaila was nowhere near that bad, but she was glad for someone who had the patience since Vanessa, who's broke down crying from her treatment, obviously didn't.
"Your an abusive pregnant lady!" Vanessa argued when Kaila accused her of passing her off to someone else.
"You try carrying two babies who seem to be getting bigger and bigger everyday. I don't sleep so excuse me if i'm a little cranky."
"A little is an understatement." Vanessa quipped as she looked through the finances.
"Excuse me, what was that?" Kaila said, lips quivering waiting for action.
"I said where is the other statements, you know for the caterers." She said looking under the books, "Oh, here it is!" Relieved she dodged that bullet.

Kaila's wedding was gorgeous. It was eld outside on the green grass of her backyard in front of the beach. Vanessa outdid herself this time. The bridesmaids where dressed in burgundy and the grooms in white suits with burgundy ties and vests.

Ricky stood at the alter sweating, not only from the sun but from the nerves that decided to jump up and down as the music began. The bridesmaids and groomsmen walked down the aisle, all looking fresh and new, as the life that Ricky was about to begin with his love. The trumpets sounded and as the traditional 'here comes the bride' played the congregation stood and Vanessa stepped down the aisle with the flower girl following her close behind. When Kaila stepped out, despite how she felt, she looked gorgeous. Her Baby doll dress flowed down to the ground and the train led long behind her. Her hair was wrapped with gold roses pinned into the sides. She looked like an angel. The glow from her face was amazing.
The neptuals took place and Ricky kissed his long awaited wife for the first time as one.
The months went by pretty quickly for Kaila afterwards, She was able to relax since Vanessa took over the business and she was able to lie in bed all day. Ofcourse Ricky would come home from work and make her walk out and about, so she can get some excercise, but for the most part she was in bed.
Then one day while laying in bed, she felt a trickle of water on her leg. She thought it was one of the many accidents she's been having when the babies pushed on her bladder. She sat up and slid of the bed and headed for the bathroom and that's when it happened water rushed down her legs and she was unable to hold it. Kaila stood frozen in the puddle as the realization hit her. "I'm in labor," she whispered and looked around for the cordless phone the whole time mumbling the words over and over again in her head. "Babies, not right now, Daddy's not home." Finally she found the phone and headed for the closet as she dialed Ricky's number.
"Hey babe, I can't talk right now i'm on a conference call."
"Look, the babies are coming they're coming. They don't give a damn about you conference call." She said out of breath as she took the contraction though mild were intense.
"Are you kidding?" Ricky said in disbelief
"Does it sound like i'm kidding! You know what forget you, i'm calling Vanessa." Kaila hung up as she hunf up on Ricky. Cursing the whole time.

It Done

The reached for her cell phone and called Vanessa. “Vanessa, darling,” Kaila said trying to control her tone, she noticed that Vanessa was very sensitive when it came to her being emotional, she’s hung up on Kaila before.”
“Are you okay, what did I do now?”
“Nothing, nothing the babies are on there way.”
“Say what?” Vanessa didn’t wait for her to repeat she hung up the phone; she was already on her way.

15 minutes later Vanessa pulled up into Kaila’s driveway. As she ran up the walk way she couldn’t help, but have a moment of déjà vu remembering she ran the same way months ago when she realized Kaila was in trouble. Her heart skipped a beat as she tried to shake the images from her mind. “Kaila!” She screamed as soon as she entered the house, she ran straight in and was headed up the stairs.
“I’m in the living room!” Vanessa spun around and noticed Kaila sprawled out on the chaise with her hospital bag next to her. ‘She looks horrible.’ Vanessa thought to herself.
“Come on Big Mama; let’s go get your figure back.” Vanessa grunted as she pulled Kaila to her feet. Vanessa couldn’t help but notice how close together her contractions were. “Look you need to wobble a little faster because I don’t think I could deliver these babies.”
As Vanessa got Kaila settled in the back seat of her car, Ricky pulled up in the drive way. “Is she okay?” He asked Vanessa while he helps put the bag in the trunk.
“Her contractions are close together, so we’re really gonna have to hit it to the hospital.”
“Okay let’s go.” He opened the back do to join Kaila in the back.
“I don’t want you back here!” Kaila yelled, “Mr. Conference call better sit up front.” That was not a battle Ricky was willing to fight. He jumped in the front seat and turned to look at Kaila.
“Babe, I got here as fast as I could.”
“Don’t give me that bull, Ricky, Don’t give me that bull! I called you first and Vanessa got here before you. Is this what I should expect out of you? Let me know now!” Ricky turned and looked a Vanessa. Vanessa gave him a warning look. Ricky spoke no more.
They arrived at the hospital very quickly. When Ricky jumped out to give Kaila a hand, she gave out the most blood curdling scream Ricky has ever heard. He paused and looked at her; Her eyes were closed as she concentrated on her breathing. Then in a small whisper she said “I have to push, I can’t hold it anymore.”
“No you will not push, not in my car!” yelled Vanessa. “It’s bad enough you’re leaking in there.” Ricky looked at Vanessa sharply. “I don’t care, it’s my car.”
“You’ve been hanging around me too much.” Kaila managed to chuckle. She was trying to hold back the urge to push, but every time her contractions came she felt like bearing down. Soon a male nurse was at her car with a wheel chair and they got her into the labor room without hesitation. At first they refused to let Vanessa in, hospital policy, Kaila pulled the “Do you know who I am?!” Card and got her best friend in standing by her side. Less then 2 hours later the twins entered the new world.
Tears fell down his cheeks as his held his son in his right arm and his daughter in the left arm. The nurse came in with a tray of swabs and vials. “From what I understood there was a DNA test requested?” She asked while placing on her latex gloves with a snap. Ricky turned and looked at Ricky.
“You guys sure know how to kill the moment now, don’t you?” Kaila quipped. “Well, yes one was requested. The nurse went on with procedure.
“You will receive the results in the mail in about a week.” The nurse informed. She grabbed her cart and exited the room. Ricky looked back up at Kaila, and back at his son that he was holding. Vanessa sat in the corner with her Goddaughter looking out the window.
“Kaila, when those results come in. If you want to know, I understand, but do me a favor and keep the results to yourself. To me they don’t matter these are my kids, they’re already my pride. I don’t want to know.” Kaila nodded her head and looked away holding back the tears that were sitting behind her lids.
“What are their names?” Vanessa asked placing the baby into her bassinet. She could hold her all day.
“Well we decided to name our son. Jacob Ricardo. Our daughter, we decided on Vanessa Kaila.” Vanessa looked up sharply.
“You’re kidding, right? You’re trying to get back at me for the whole car incident. ” Vanessa said. She felt as if they were toying with her.
“No I’m not kidding; you have and will continue to play a big part in our lives Vanessa. You are appreciated.” Tears rolled down Vanessa eyes as she hugged her friend.

Being home for a week, with screaming babies both on queue every time. Kaila thought she was going to lose her mind. She had no sleep, as much as Ricky tried to help, she felt bad knowing he had to go into the office early and will be up all night rocking one screaming baby as Kaila fed the other. They refused to nurse together. They both drank from both breasts, so Kaila’s milk supply came in as fast as it went out. She finally broke down one morning. “I feel like the dairy section!” She wailed as the one twin squeezed her very sensitive nipples. “They eat like cows I didn’t know babies could be so greedy? One of these days I’m going to lose my nipple to this chewer, she said easing her nipple from the chewing baby. “That’s it I’m calling my mom!”
Unfortunately, Kaila’s parents haven’t been back to visit since the wedding. Her mother answered the phone gingerly as if she were expecting the call.
As she listened to Kaila’s sobs all she could say was, “I know honey we’re on our way. Yes tomorrow morning…I know…first flight. No we do not need a private jet. We’ll get there.” It’s amazing how our mothers can understand us through sobs.
Kaila’s mother arrived at the house the next afternoon. Vanessa walked in surprised to see her. “She couldn’t make it to a week? She’s such a baby.”
“Well, one day Kaila will have the pleasure of saying the same to you.” Her mother quipped.
“Kaila, can I speak to you a moment?” Vanessa asked. Kaila followed her out the room and left the grandparents adoring their soon to be spoiled grandchildren.
“This came in to the office today? Why did you send it to the office? I was lucky to be there when the mail arrived.”
“No I set up for my hospital bills to go to the office; they probably just used the same address. Kaila looked down at the envelope that clearly held the answer to who fathered her twins.”
“Well, here’s your moment of truth.” Vanessa said, after a sigh. “Do you want me to leave?” Just then Ricky walked in the room.
“Hey beautiful, I’m guessing your parents arrived? No one is attached to you.”
“You’re home early.” Kaila said shocked that he walked into the room.
“Well I decided to come home early. Try and catch some sleep since I didn’t get any last night.”
“Well go straight to the guest room then and don’t go seeing the babies. You know you’re wide awake after looking at them.” Kaila said, pulling her hands behind her back hiding the envelope. She stretched her neck for a quick peck and watched as Ricky left of course heading upstairs instead of to one of the guest rooms.
“So, do you want me to leave?”
“No, I’m not going to open it just yet. I need sometime to think about what I’m doing.”
“Well you know, no matter what the results, he’s not going to treat those children differently.”
“Yeah, what if one day we need to know, then what?”
“God forbid, you guys get in circumstances where this will be a need. I’m sure that if that time comes the truth will reveal itself. It’s not going to change anything. Right now, you just need to look at the family you have upstairs and ask yourself; is everything perfect the way it is now or if I do know this answer can it negatively affect what I have now?” Vanessa said dropping her handbag on the couch. “Now if you don’t mind, there is a couple of kids upstairs waiting to be kissed and spoiled.” She walked out the room and headed upstairs.
Kaila stood in the living room with and tapped the envelope to the palm of her hands. She walked up to the window to stare at the sea. The sun was about to set and the glow from the dimming sun made the ocean seem orange. “Hey old friend,” She whispered as she watched the waves roll in. “You’ve always helped me sort things out; I need your help now.” When the sun finished setting, Kaila made her way upstairs. She heard her parents unpacking in the bedroom down the hall from hers and her father reminiscing about Kaila as a baby. She smiled as she made her way down the hall. She stopped short at her bedroom door and watched as Vanessa and Ricky argued if the babies were smiling or if they had gas.
“Ricky, its gas. Their too young to smile.”
“Why you hatin’, Vanessa?”
“Stop talking like that, you’re teaching them bad language.”
“They can’t smile, but they could learn bad language.” Just then Jacob let out a big burp.
“Told you so.” Vanessa laughed. “He thinks you guys were smiling for him. Vanessa said talking to Jacob, “Say ‘Daddy you give me indigestion.’”
“Whatever.”
Kaila walked down the hall and dropped the envelope in the shredder. “It’s in your hands now she said looking toward the ceiling. She went back into the room to join her family. The family that was long overdue.
