Maybe I need to re-think this. Maybe I shouldn't assume that because someone doesn't do things they wouldn't. Maybe they think it's expensive but I am aware of all kinds of inexpensive ways to access great events. If they come with the that is White people music or White people sinting bizniz, perhaps I need to dig deeper. That may be a defense mechanism to avoid saying it's too expensive.

Now for sure concert tickets have gone sky high but there are small recitals that don't cost a lot and some universities have free recitals. When I lived in Montreal near McGill I would walk over there and go to recitals. They made for a very relaxing evening. I find that if funds are tight and a lot of us have has to tighten our belts, with a little creativity there are many things you can enjoy. For example, if you go and watch club polo there is no charge and that takes place a couple of times a week at polo clubs worldwide. Even the most exclusive clubs, if you are staying at a hotel and you ask the concierge to call for you, they'll arrange an invitation for you to go and watch. At the big tournaments, there is an area for reserved tables that's a bit expensive but there is always a general admission. In Toronto, you can pay about $12 and bring your own picnic lunch. They even have a picnic contest with prizes.

Restaurant business is big big business in jamaica so i don't think its a jamaican ting not to eat out.

I am not saying that NO Jamaicans eat out but I do hear the concern that food is nassee and dem not sure what people put in the food thing a lot. Maybe that is an excuse or a way of covering up limited funds, I don't know.

Okay RichD...how about these:

- old fashioned ideas about the roles of men and women in child rearing and running a household
- little interest in travelling

Would the little interest in travel fall into the covering up limited funds? There are so many ways to travel inexpensively. So many ways. There are last minute clubs and sell-off websites. Many industries have trade shows and events and they will actualy pay your way and put you up in a hotel if you agree to meet with suppliers. Find an inexpensive fare for your lady to join you and stay on an extra night or two maybe even moving to a less expensive boutique hotel when the trade show is over. I am talking about after marriage not a way to facilitate .

The old fashioned ideas re: child rearing isn't just Jamaican men. I have seen that in men from some other cultures. Why do some men act as if it is a crime to change a bay's nappy or give the baby a bath. Are they nervous and afraid they will drop the baby or just out and out sexist. Explain that one to me.

My husband did, and so did all of his friends. But, I'm pretty sure my father never did ( unless it was an absolute necessity). I think this is a generational thing.
