Income not enough?

A couple takes home about $5Gs/mth (give or take a bit cause they're both hourly paid). They have two kids, pays rent, insurance (auto & life) and manages to sock something away in a modest savings account.

Their life is simple but good. At least it was, before the woman in the relationship got to chatting with a schoolfriend who's just come back into her life.

The schoolfriend makes twice what the couple makes. She has no kids but is engaged to be married. Her fiance makes about the same as she. They each have their own house, car, investments, can go away on vacation etc etc.

Now the mother & wife is feeling inadequate. She wants to leave her hourly paid job to go back to school to get her degrees so that she can increase her income. In the meantime, she figures that if they live very frugally, the family could get by on only the husband's income.

Her husband is not impressed. He thinks that she jus red yeye. She's now accused him of being ambitionless. Now there's whole heap a tension an fawt. She's determined to start school come March. He can barely look at her much less talk to her.

What's your take on all this?

Damn!! She did happy before shi si de fren?? Mi cyaan fight nuhbaddi fi waan go back a school, but if dem ting deh wasn't in her plan before mi can si why de hubby would be upset.

She coodan tek likkle time fi ease into it dowe. Why she can't work part time while attending school. Or go school part time. How dem gwaan pay fi school? Loans? grants? Out of pocket??

hmmm...

I think she should go as well. However, I think she should do after hours classes or something. She said it would take too long to complete...

Her kids are under 10. She says her husband is accusing her of leaving everything up to him (running the house, provding an income, raising the kids etc) while removing their safety net because she wants to use their savings to fund going back to school.

dat mek sense Bizi...mi undastand the husband frustration but dem must can reason and come to some undastanding. Worse if dem "live" according to dem incoming, living offa one is not going to be easy. She really should consider school part time

She needs to realize too that more than likely she won't be making the same $ as her friend and it may take some time to get there

I think she makes somewhere between $25-$30G. I dunno if he think's she have high chest... he's not saying much, but his actions is showing that he's not for it...
