David drives. Has a AZ licence. And he's dyslexic.

Donnika, just like he's said, there are varying degrees to dyslexia. <u>Cause one has dyslexia, does not mean they can't read.</u> It may be that he reads poorly i.e: slowly, mispronounces words, or even reads backwards.

So while you may think he cannot read (and he may have been quite hurt if not offended by your offer to 'teach' him) and that he's just got ways of 'passing', you've got to understand that he most likely sees the written word differently but understands it perfectly.

David for eg, is an avid reader. He's an history & military buff. However, growing up, he was considered a dunce, because words, for him, would run together. Figures would change (like a six would become an eight). Dyslexia was not a recognized learning disability. Folk who had this issue were just repeatedly caned and considered hopeless.

You know that to get your driver's license here, you have to do a written test. So some reading is required. To get an advanced driving licence, even more reading is required. Reading and understanding. To get his haz-mat licence, he's got to be able to read and it goes on.

There is no 'winging it'.

People with dyslexia are very sensitive to their condition. They don't want to be made to feel like fools, cause more than likely, they have a daily inner battle of trying to convince themselves that they are not the fool everyone else seem to think they are.

I actually tutor at an adult literacy center and my student has a drivers license and a Commercial (Truck) drivers license and he can't read. They gave him the test orally with true or false questions. Most people are shocked to hear that they offer the test that way and a lot of people are driving those big trucks without being able to read.
