read about massage before but nevah been able to find any place that does it

I mention this because when my scalp was damaged from radiation treatment, I started going to the salon to have my scalp massaged. Come to think of it, that is what turned my hair and scalp around

my scalp was this dry, flaky, bleeding mess back then. And the skin was tough and hard so my hair had a hard time growing. The massages with oils, not only loosened my scalp making the skin soft and pink again, but got the roots to breathe and thus my hair began to grow like it normally did.

Nothing I did for the year and a half prior helped at all until I started this. No deep conditioning, no nothing helped before.

I would think it shouldnt be too hard to find a place in NYC, Gen

I try my best to do it myself now and even though it isnt the same as having someone else's hands on ur head it still works well. You feel the difference in your scalp when u stressed, tense, sick etc. and when I am done my head doesnt hurt as bad and my scalp isnt as &quot;stiff&quot;.

When my hairdresser does it, I pretty much float out of there and my hair feels really silky for the next while because my scalp can distribute oil and thing to the rest of my hair.

I forgot what a difference it made for me back then.

I've been put under these steamers at the salon and there is no difference in putting a shower cap over your head and putting conditioner on your hair and steaming it that way.

If your hair is breaking it cd be time to address what's going on on the inside rather than fixing it from the outside. taking regular vitamin e tabs as well as other nutritional changes coudl make a huge difference in your hair. I know since switching certain foods in my diet my hair is much better. Additionally I've removed a lot of stresses from my life this past year and my hair is growing leaps and bounds.

I've switched to mizani products and have minimised the use of heating tools on my hair.

thx QodA..I know exactly the underlying cause is and have tackled it from a bunch of different angles over the yrs...including diet (granted I no longer do the yeast free ting..that was just too hard man), prescription shampoos/ointments and vitamins...these treatments control the underlying condition and have reversed/limited the hair damage somewhat over the yrs...without those treatments..especially the prescription stuff all my hair would be gone..

i still have not found a solid treatment for the breakage..especially during the winter and no matter how much i &quot;moisturise&quot; you can literally see that my hair is dry...(<span style="font-style: italic">of course according to the 2 ladies in ja i've been doing it wrong all these yrs and they could be very well right</span>...)..my choices are for moisturisers are somewhat limited because i can't use any of the regular oil/shea butter based ones we normally use..but i do pretty well with water based ones..(ie African Formula gels) so the quest for more water based solutions continues..

Reading this thread reminds me how much I've been neglecting my hair the past few months. I think I've worn it down 3 times since November!

Anyway, re. the topic, I cover my head with plastic and go under the bonnet dryer. The heat from the dryer causes the water on my hair to steam up.

If you don't want to cut them completely, limit them to weekends only for example (it's not Sunday dinner w/o rice &amp; peas). That should alleviate your symptoms a great deal.

Scalp massage is an excellent remedy too. Not only will it make your scalp more supple, you'll increase blood flow to the follicles which then leads to stronger strands of hair.

would you believe even wearing my hair up consistently is a problen..it starts to fray right where I twist it..

but i've started wrapping it at night again...starting to look like my mum and her tie-heads..lol

the steamer <span style="font-style: italic">finally </span> arrived and I used it for the first time..what a sitten hat but mebbe that's because i'm not used to dryers an tin..anyway so far I really like the results..waiting to see if there is long term improvement with the breakage...

jaded yuh know anybody round the way do scalp massages ?

mi nuh have nuh problem sitting fi 1 hour mi juss come een from pedicure.
