I have to laugh at this thread! I'm right now in the middle of making several beautiful ankle bracelets! I just finished a shell one with little heart shaped carved shells, and another one with caramel mother of pearl longer beads with a carved dangling pearl leaf.

I make funky fun ones for people like me who like to decorate ourselves with colorful fun peices of jewelry on our necks ears arms wrists ankles, wherever! Well, I'm not into decorating my nose or eyebrows, heh...
Casual dress ones. They're fun!

the anklet is partly worn for aesthetic reasons and even so Shandra..you've never done anything

Since this is the style and fashion forum, that is what the anklet represents for me, just another way to wear a piece of nice jewelry. I never knew of the anklets rep as a symbol of prostitution until recently. Anklets are ancient and figure in history, where did the link between them and prostitution stem?????

ANyway, the anklets have been worn, as you say, for centuries, but this is the closest I have come to finding out why the connection to illicit sex may have been made:
